Calorio "Carl" Consiglio, age 90, of Saint Clair Shores, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 31, 2021. Born Calorio, the sixth child of seven, parents Salvatore and Teresa, who had moved from Sicily in 1920 to America, named their son Calorio, but he preferred the name "Carl". Carl lived long enough to be the last living member of the original Consiglio family, preceded in death by his brother John and his wife Marie "Jean", his brother Sam and his wife Marion, his sister Catherine and husband Joseph, his sister Rose and husband Edward, his brother Russell, and his brother Frank and wife Kay.
Carl was lucky enough to find the love of his life, his wife, Joyce Consiglio of 70 years. He loved her so much, he married her twice, once by the Justice of Peace on June 2, 1951, and that day the two young teenage lovers told no family members and went back to each ones respective home. Then married a second time when Carl's oldest brother discovered the situation, and said you both are getting married again in front of the family at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Carl is survived by his wonderful wife of 70 years Joyce, son Chris and his wife Vicki, his late son David, son Mark, and son Joseph and his wife Janine.
Carl had 8 grandchildren Brent, Kimberly, Ashley, Jonathan, Matthew, Leslie, Alyse and William. Carl is survived also by Brent's wife Crystal, Matthew's wife Giovannie, Leslie's husband John Thomas, Ashley's soon to be husband Frank, and Alyse's soon to be husband Tom.
Carl also had 5 great grandkids, Clark, Blake, Troy, Zoey, and Skyla. Carl had many nieces and nephews, sorry too many to mention, but if we say the name "Sam", that will cover most of them.
Carl was a Veteran. Drafted into the Army in 1952 for the Korean Conflict, he rose to the level of Corporal. When Carl came home from the war, he started his family in 1954 and eventually settled into family life in Saint Clair Shores. Carl was a member of the Sheet Metal Union Local 80, and was a skilled tradesman with vast skills in sheet metal and duct work design. Carl rose to the level of pension fund administrator with Local 80. Carl and Joyce also designed the family house that has been lived in for nearly 50 years on Revere Street.
Carl loved baseball, and was very active with Saint Isaac Jogues Baseball Leagues and rose to the level of Athletic Director. Carl formulated a new baseball draft system at S.I.J. to keep all the little league teams equally competitive. Carl signed up hundreds of players to learn how to play baseball at S.I.J. in the minor league, little league, pony, and colt leagues also.
Carl was also active with the Saint Isaac Jogues Bowling League and Golf Leagues. Carl started the "Carl's Couples" Golf League, that grew to 30 couples golfing together. Yes, Carl has 2 hole in ones, while his sons are still waiting for their first. Carl also owned three race horses at one time, a lifelong dream of his. Lastly, Carl loved boating on Lake St. Clair.
Carl Consiglio will be remembered at a church mass at Saint Isaac Jogues on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 10:30 a.m.
A luncheon will follow this mass at Lakeland Manor in Saint Clair Shores.
