After a very courageous battle, Christa (Goerlich) Sokolitz of St. Clair Shores, Michigan passed away on June 28, 2025. Born on December 1, 1971, she was a graduate of Michigan State University before going into sales and program management for the automotive industry. Inspired by her love of travel, she took a leap and founded Ember World Travel, LLC in 2016 and earned her Certified Travel Associate (CTA) credentials and was presented with the prestigious Gateway for Excellence Award in 2023. She was highly respected by both her clients and peers in the Travel Industry until her death. Christa also spent time volunteering as a Girl Scout troop leader and as a member of Kiwanis International. Christa loved all things outdoors and enjoyed many hobbies including travel, boating, scrap booking, and especially walking her Bernedoodle, Lainey at the Ford Estate.
Christa is survived by her husband of nearly 22 years, David Sokolitz and Daughters Talia, 19 and Charlotte, 16 on July 8th. She is also survived by her parents, Joseph and Kathryn Goerlich of St. Clair Shores and by her sisters Wendy (David) Codd of Apache Junction, AZ and Julie (Ricky) Rodriguez of St. Clair, Michigan as well as Dave’s parents, Frank Sherwood of St. Clair Shores and Doris (Jerry) Adair of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by Dave’s sister, Valerie Cady of St. Paul MN and brothers Phil (Grace) Sherwood of Troy, MI and Rich (Simona) Sherwood of Prague, Czech Republic. Christa was aunt to Devin Hammond; Chloe Rodriguez; Kenny, Kayly, William and Juliet Sherwood; and Kurt & Schuyler Sowa.
There will be a celebration of Christa’s life at the Edsel Ford Estate, 1100 Lakeshore Road, Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan on Sunday, July 6th from 2 – 7 p.m. We will share food, memories, stories and the joy that emanated from Christa. The family has requested no black clothing as Christa was colorful, and we want to respect her memory wearing colors.
