I worked with Darrell here at Belle Maer for nine years. Many a boat show. What I can honestly say about him is that he was a true friend. The kind of friend you always knew would be there if you needed, and compelled you to do the same for him.

He will be sorely missed.

Darrell loved his family. He was our glue, our go-to guy in every way. I know he loved being the big brother because he was always there to help us all out. He organized the family gathering at his place and was heartbroken if one of us couldn't make it. We will miss him every single day. Our family is broken but we are strong and I know Darrell would want us to stay strong, and take care of each other the way he always did. You got it big brother. Love you.

In 1987, Darrell, Mark Howard, Warner Klienert and myself were at Tollycraft Yatchs in Kelso, Wa. We boarded a private plane to fly to Seattle, Wa for a Boat Show that had a 61' Tolloycraft on display. The young pilot selected to fly visual since it was a clear day. We were flying above the tree line at a low altitude
and if you looked out at the horizon it appeared that we were flying too low and would eventually hit the top of the trees in the distance. After a short time in the sky, Darrell asked the pilot, "you do see the trees in the distance don't you". Darrell always was telling jokes and stories but this time his voice was very serious. Darrell will be missed by all.
With deepest Sympathy,
Dick & Barb Carlson

So sorry to hear about Darrell's passing. We worked together in Real Estate many years ago and lost touch when we moved to California in 1979. We both loved boats and used to park at Metro beach where many boat parties took place. Darrell was always the gentleman and I was hoping to see him and have a cold one when we visited Michigan. Darrell was a lot of fun to be around and he was always smiling. I'm sitting here in Texas and remembering the old times, the conversations, the beer's, sometimes too many. Life really is short. It goes by so fast you don't even see it. Rest in peace good friend.

Darrel and I worked together at Brennan's for at least 8 years and we had a great time together. He was in the next office by mine and we used to talk together all the time. The one thing we shared every single day was the daily crossword puzzles. (This was before the internet became popular) We used to figure them out together but we never figured one out all the way. I saw him occasionally after I was in my accident and we would talk about everything and is was as if I never left!
Even though I haven't seen him for awhile I will miss him quite a bit.

Your brother Darrell was one of a kind. He always had a smile for everyone and a joke to tell . He even became amusing when we all knew he was telling the same joke every year. Or, when he told someone about the elephant. When we were young he was always nice to all of us. Enjoyed golfing, playing poker and euchre and talking to him at parties. He was just a genuine great guy. He will be missed. My sincere condolences to all of you. He is with the angels now. Become the strength for one another and share it whenever you can.
