I am very sorry to hear about the passing of Dave. I knew Dave many, many years and always considered him a very good friend. My sympathies to the entire family. Rest in peace, Dave.

I'm so sorry hear of Dave's passing. I had heard he wasn't doing well through through my network of old EMU Band alums.

I regret that I didn't keep in touch Dave after my Dad, Thomas Tyra, left EMU. I remember him as a very kind, generous and funny guy who my Dad placed a lot of confidence in. Dave was a man on a mission - and so full of life.

Dave could always be depended on to come through when something needed to done for the EMU band program.

He was clearly one my Dad's favorites - and we all spoke of him fondly often long after my Dad left Eastern, especially around Christmas time when the infrequent Christmas card from "Workman" would arrive.

I was a member of the EMU marching band during the years 1975-1977.  Dave was our band's "cheerleader" making up cheers that made us laugh and helped form fond memories amongst the EMU Band Alumni.  I am so sorry to hear of his loss.  His free spirit will continue to make me smile whenever I recall those "happy golden college years."  God Bless your family and may he give you strength during this difficult time.

Dave was a childhood friend...always fun and fun loving, I am sure he was loved by all who knew him. A gentle spirit. We were in elementary, junior and senior high together and spent many many band hours as part of the East Detroit High School marching and pep bands and the symphonic wind ensemble. So sad to hear of his passing...a good man gone too soon. God bless Dave and his family.

Dave was a great friend from the "olden" days.  Elementary, jr. High and EDHS. Band friends too. God Bless you and your family Dave.

I first met Dave back in '75 when I was a freshman at EMU.  Dave was a jolly man and a free spirit who loved umpiring baseball and loved playing his tuba in the EMU band.  Dave brought a little of the spirit of "Animal House" to EMU; it wouldn't have been the same place without him.

I remember Dave loved to lead cheers at Rynearson stadium.  Eastern's football team needed all the cheering it could get just to break even for the season.  He was so good that soon the crowd was paying more attention to Dave than the cheerleaders!  Soon the cheerleaders got jealous and the word came down "no more cheerleading from the band" which I thought was a big mistake.  I remember some of Dave's little pranks, like the time he stuffed the new band director's office solid with crumpled newspapers!  I also remember his incredible ability to digest multiple Arby's roast beef sandwiches, fries and shakes at a setting.

I lost touch with Dave after EMU, but I never forgot him.  He was a friend to one and all.

So sorry to hear of David's passing.  We attended Bethel from 1994 to 2000.  David was the choir director for part of that time.  Daniel was in our Sunday School class and Sparks group.  We have a plate that Daniel painted for us when we were preparing to move from Detroit to Tustin in 2000.

I was an old college friend of Dave's.  Dave was a larger than life personality that I truly admired when I came to Eastern.  We were in the Marching Bend together, we3nt on Pep Band Trips, played in the the EMU/uofm Band Football Game for several years.  We spent a lot of time together hanging out.  He kind of took me under his wing when I came to college as I was an innocent kid from a small rural school who had no idea of what college was about or what living in a city (well Ypsilanti anyway).  Dave was a very positive influence on me and I will never forget what he did for me and the friendship we shared.  I truly regret losing touch with Dave since college though I thought of him often.  My prayers are with Dave's family in this time of sorrow.  GOD will ease your suffering if you let him!!!!
