She is predeceased by her husband, Leonard Ziemlewicz, to whom she married in November, 1951 after meeting on a blind date. Married for almost 60 years they enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were very active in camping clubs and spent a good part of their retirement traveling the country, going on several cruises and traveling to Europe a couple of times to visit ancestral countries. Their time at home found them on the sidelines of their grandchildren’s soccer & hockey games, cross country meets, dance recitals, band concerts, cheerleading and countless other activities. Dorothy & Len joined a group of “walkers” at Eastland Mall and for more than two decades they enjoyed their company while staying in shape.
Dorothy worked for many years as an RN at Henry Ford Hospital, Rose Villa and Father Murray’s nursing homes and when she retired she would volunteer to check individuals’ blood pressure at Saint Clair Shores Civic center. She and her fellow nursing graduates continue to meet every year for a reunion.
Dorothy and Leonard had four children: Patrick Ziemlewicz (Denise) of Eastpointe, Cindy Collinson (Jeff) of Harper Woods, Ken Ziemlewicz (Dee Dee) of Sterling Heights, & the youngest Joseph “Gordie” Ziemlewicz who passed away in 2007.
