Douglas was the beloved son of Eugene Horetski and Jean (Weddel) Horetski, and the devoted brother of Gayle (Kurt Nyholm) Horetski, Colleen Brehm, Mary (Daniel) Corbet, Steve Horetski, and the late Mark Horetski. He was a cherished uncle to Sarah Corbet, Colleen Corbet, and Gabe Nyholm, all of whom brought him great joy.
Douglas grew up in a large and loving family in Warren, Michigan. As a boy, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America and especially loved camping at Camp D-Bar-A in Metamora, where he worked as a lifeguard alongside his brother Mark. He had a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying countless fishing trips with friends and family. Summers were often spent at the family cabin near Skidway Lake, where carefree days with cousins created treasured memories.
Douglas had a full and joyful social life. He loved playing cards with his card club, attending concerts, and cheering on the Detroit Tigers at games with friends.
Above all, Douglas found his greatest happiness in spending time with his family—especially his nieces, whose activities he proudly supported. He had a gift for making every occasion special, giving thoughtful presents and writing heartfelt notes that were deeply meaningful to those who received them. A talented gardener, he took great pride in his yard, and his love of animals reflected his gentle spirit. His sense of humor, warmth, and kindness made him beloved by all who knew him.
Professionally, Douglas worked as a painter and maintenance supervisor, known for his skill and resourcefulness—he could fix just about anything. One summer, his adventurous spirit took him to Alaska, where he worked with his brother-in-law Kurt cleaning and repairing roofs. Later in life, as he transitioned toward semi-retirement, he continued to stay active as a delivery driver
Douglas will be remembered most for his kind heart, his generosity, and his unwavering willingness to help others. His presence brought joy, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
