Edgar Russell “Ed” Hunt, 87, of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud veteran, Ed’s warmth, humor and generous spirit touched all who knew him.
Born on September 26, 1938, in Pembroke, North Carolina, Ed was the son of Gordon “Doc” Hunt and Fannie Mae Martin Hunt. He grew up surrounded by a large and close-knit family, one that instilled in him a love of community, service, and the value of hard work.
A proud Native American and a man deeply rooted in his heritage; Ed carried with him the traditions and strength of his upbringing throughout his life. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army, serving six years in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His time in service built the foundation of discipline, courage, and loyalty that would follow him through every chapter of his life.
February 8th, 1961, Edgar married the love of his life, Elouise Locklear, beginning a lifelong partnership marked by deep affection and devotion. In 1964, they relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where they raised their three children and built a home full of laughter, love, and faith. Together, Ed and Elouise shared over 50 years of marriage before her passing, and their bond remains an enduring part of their family’s heart.
Ed worked hard throughout his life, holding positions at Uniroyal, New Haven Foundry, the Rouge Plant, and Budd Wheel before retiring from General Motors after 23 ½ years as a journeyman electrician. He took great pride in his craft, respected by colleagues for his reliability and willingness to lend a helping hand.
To those who knew him personally, Ed will be remembered most for his humor and generosity. He loved joking with his kids and grandkids, often the life of any family gathering. He was happiest when spending time with his family-traveling back to North Carolina for summer visits, taking his grandchildren to the Michigan State Fair, or cooking a big pot of chili for all to enjoy. He found joy in the simple pleasures-fishing, country drives, and sharing stories that brought everyone closer together.
Ed was preceded by his beloved wife, Elouise Locklear Hunt, his parents, and siblings Jean Duvall, Buddy Hunt, Frances Rogers, and Mickey Hunt. He is survived by his children Bregetta Gail Marchand (Mark), Michelle Chris McMahon (Tim), and Edgar Russell Hunt II, his brothers Harry Hunt, Harvey Hunt, and Bobby Hunt. His grandchildren Christopher (Jessica) Hunt, Catherine (Ish) Santillan, Caroline Marchand, Jesse (Brooke) McMahon, Emily Marchand, Anthony (Kaitlyn) McMahon, and Mark N. Marchand; and four great grandchildren, Damion Alexander Hunt, Jurnee Jesslyn Hunt, Mia Nicole McMahon, and Aria Elouise McMahon.
A memorial service honoring Ed’s life will be held at Kaul Funeral Home in St. Clair Shores, on Jefferson Ave., between 11 and 12 mile road on November 7, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. With a sharing of memories service at 7:00 p.m. and military honors to follow. His remains will be taken home to North Carolina to be placed beside his beloved wife in the mausoleum at Berea Baptist Church.
The Hunt family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to all friends, family, and loved ones who have reached out during this time of loss. Your kindness, prayers, and support mean more than words can express.
