Born at Portage, PA to Mary Lang and Andrew Z. Graham, their 10th child.
Family moved to Grosse Pointe, where Gene attended St. Paul school, excelling in baseball and football with all star and all league honors for 4 years, was a Lochmoor caddy, then attending U of D before enlisting for active duty in the USN. Stationed in Brunswick ME, he also served in Malta with honors, earning the rate of 3rd Class Petty Officer. Upon returning home he entered college to become a teacher/coach, but found an opportunity in the motion picture industry, which quickly became his avocation. He had memorable positions with Columbia, Paramount and Fox studios, and Nicholas George theatres during the time that movies were growing rapidly to bring entertainment to local theatres, which were also experiencing tremendous growth. He enjoyed a rewarding career, from district manager positions to eventually midwest division manager. Tirelessly giving his energy to events sponsored by the film industry, he became the head of Variety Club of Detroit, under which his guidance of the Growth and Development wing of Children's Hospital, was able to provide a Sunshine Coach for needy children that would be treated at the new Limb Bank. Throughout his success the love of his family and their welfare were always primary. Yearly camp outs, never missing a football or hockey game, supporting every event, teaching them the values of integrity and discipline was his joy.
