My condolences to Fred's entire family.  Fred taught my sister and I to swim back in the late 60's. Our family was good friends of Fred's for many years, along with his brother Danny and family.  RIP Fred.

I only wish Fred was still with us as we near the 50th anniversary of the establishing the Department of Parks and Recreation -1972 to 2022.  He was instrumental in making it the success it was.

Coach Jake,
You will be missed. You helped so many boys become men in the LCN Football program. You were an excellence coach, mentor and role model!!! You taught us how to be tough and play the game with respect and honor. May you always have a seat at the fifty yardline in heaven with your headset on.

I worked for Fred many years ago at the pool. We had so many wonderful, great memories being only 17 and 18 years old. He gained so much respect even back then. Condolences to all the Jacobson sons. They certainly had a great roll model.

In 1985 and 86 I played on varsity football teams at LCN coached by Coach Jacobson.  I didnt see the field much in games because there were better athletes than me.  Coach Jacobson motivated me every day in gym class as well as at football practice.  He was the kind of man who made you feel like you mattered in the grand scheme of things.  He was a very good coach, mentor and person.  I have struggled in life mightily like most of us.  Everytime I feel like giving up on something, I go back to all the lessons and motivation I  learned from coach those 2 years and I regroup and try harder.  I am blessed with 3 beautiful children.  I am blessed to coach sports at St Joan of Arc.  I am blessed to work with special education students.  The gifts of coaching and teaching that coach Jacobson gave me have helped make this happen.  I will never forget him and at least in my tiny part of the world the effort and perserverence he helped mold in me I teach to more youths today.  Thats a testament to his efforts.  I would like to thank his family for giving him the time he spent coaching.  Know that it helped many and will continue to do so for many years to come.  My prayers are with the Jacobson family---Rich Lynn. LCN (86).

My son, Lawrence Leszczynski, L'Anse Creuse High North  class of 1988, played football for Jake. He also worked for him in St. Clair Shores in the summer. This is how I got to know Jake. He was a great football coach and a person who really cared about his team. Was always good to my son when they worked together in St. Clair Shores.

The older you get the more you find who real friends are. This could not be more true than with Fred. Bigger than life, always greets you with a loud How are you. Always joking, but caring also. He touched more lives than anyone I can think of.I have known Fred all my adult life and will miss him terribly. We love you Fred.

I met Fred in 1972 as I began my tenure as Director of Parks and Recreation.  He and his mentor, Percy Sova, welcomed my family to the city, taught my kids how to swim, and we became lifelong friends.

"Little Fred" will be sorely missed on the North Branch. Bob and I sure didn't know him well but we knew he loved his boys. That home on the river will never be the same. Much sympathy to his three sons.

My wife and I will never forget Jake! I work as a custodian still to this day at H.S.N. and I have known Jake for 34 years. I was always impressed by his fairness and his toughness all at the same time. He was my wife, Janet "Beach" McClearn physical education teacher when she went to H.S.N. We also remember him in the cafeteria helping to control the lunchtime crowd. My wife works in the kitchen at H.S.N and we both remember when Jake would yell at some kid's at lunch, you could hear a pin drop in that cafeteria!!! He will be very much missed by us. Prayers go out to Jake's family and may Jake rest in peace.

I remember him from my time as a student at L'Anse Creuse North from 1975-1979. I also met him a few times after I graduated and came back for visits. He was a good guy, always willing to talk to me.

My sincere condolences to the entire Jacobson family, whom I have known most of my life.  Fred was as good of a man as it gets.  Strong as an ox, not only physically, but discipline.  A life never ends until all of the lives it has touched have ended too.  Fred touched many lives in a positive manner.  An all around great guy.

So sorry to hear of the loss of mr jacobson...he was my coach and teacher in the mid 80's..coafu jake made me a better man..I even knew it at the time which was no easy feat..he's a great guy ill always have good memories of.

I had the pleasure and privilege of knowing Fred for almost 45 years.  First as an 8 year old kid as part of the summer swim team and then as an employee when he hired me as a lifeguard. No one cared more about all the kids that would come through the summer programs than him. Fred took a chance when he hired me as a young lifeguard. The experience of being a lifeguard put me on a path that I still benefit from to this day.  I will be forever grateful to Fred and will miss him.  His influence and impact on so many of us is immeasurable.

My condolences to family and friends.  Jesus is planning a wonderful family reunion.  His miracles gave us a glimpse of this at John 11:11-13, 32-44.

I will always remember Fred as my assistant coach in the Beechwood Baseball  league back in the early 70's he was a remarkable young man that sent an admirable  message.  Fred wasn't much older than the kids he coached but he had their respect.

 Fred was a good friend of the Schaublin family. I remember Fred giving me my lifeguarding water exam.  It was a challenge to save him in the water, but I passed.  I remember my dad and Fred having sit up competitions.  My dad would always have Fred go first and then my dad would do just one more sit up than Fred.  Of course, Fred caught on. They had a friendly rivalry when it came to sports.   My folks really loved Fred.  He was always very kind to them.  I am so sorry for your loss.

I worked at L'Anse Creuse High School with Jake for several years.  What a great guy!  His laugh was contagious, and his dedication was inspiring.  My sympathies to the family.  May he rest in peace.

So sorry for your loss.  I remember Fred from our football days, he at Lakeview and me at South Lake.  A fierce competitor.

Fred was on my little league baseball team as the Big time slugger  playing 1st base and played his position as good as anybody his age.He was a man of extraordinary strength who in 7th grade English class picked me up over his head and turned me around and around, needless to say, the class was amazed but the teacher was not in the class at that time. I grew up with Fred from elementary school to high school at Lakeview,what a great loss for St Clair Shores , he will be sorely missed by all that knew him,   my condolences to his family and may God bless his soul.

Coach Jake will forever be one of my favorite teachers.  He was always very understanding and had a great sense of humor.  I remember how he used to leave money on the edge of his table at lunch time for me to pick up to get him a pop.  It was our daily routine.  I will always think of him as one of my best role models.  Coach Jake left an impression with everyone he had contact with even if they were not on the football team.  He will truly be missed.

Cousin Freddy was the best!! A great teacher ( remembered fondly by so many students) and a GREAT son! I would see him often when he would bring his dad /Uncle Bud over to see my mom. Sometimes I would even have a chance for a bit of a chat! Such a GR8 guy!!! I know he will be sorely missed by his dad AND his children. Now you can be with your mother and brother in peace. I knew Fred from the time he was a teenager, and I was in middle school.  We were rink rats at Civic Arena.  He had a big personality, a friendly guy who was always nice to everyone and always smiling.  I was close with his brother Danny, also a nice, friendly and pleasant guy.  Later in life, I got to know Fred better when my young son took a liking to him at the SCS pool.  He could not wait to get to the pool each day to play with his big, fun friend "Mr. Fred," who always had time to chat, give him some swimming tips, let him help with something. I know that he has positively influenced the lives of countless others he coached at LCN and those who worked for him at the pool.  He is gone too soon, but he did more good in this world than most of us will likely ever have a chance to do, by being a great friend and mentor to so many impressionable young people. RIP, friend.

So sorry to hear of Fred's passing. We go way back to when my grandfather ran 
the pool.He had a smile that would light up a room. God bless you big guy.

Coach Jake had a profound impact on my life as a young man who was becoming a man.  I played 2 years of varsity football and always remember fondly back on those two short years of my life.  Football taught me a lot about life and the work required to become successful.  Without football and his leadership, I have no idea where I would be today.  I believe all of our coaches at LCN helped many young men to become successful in life.  My condolences to the Jacobson family for their loss.  We've all lost a little of something from our past with coach' passing.
