

He was born in Detroit, Michigan to John and Wilhelminia Zech on October 6, 1927. James was preceded in death by his dear wife of 65 years, Alice, his infant son Matthew, and his siblings, John, Margaret, Marion, Hank, Bill, and Barbara.
He is survived by his children, Thomas, John (Jeanette), James (Deborah), Patrick (Lora), and Julie (David). Jim was also a proud grandfather to Amy, Brian, Colene, Jonathan, Matthew, and Corey. Great grandfather to Braeden, Kendall, and Ava.
Jim grew up in Detroit and went to St. Anthony High School. He is also a United States Army Veteran. Jim was a lifelong member of the Carpenters Union and really enjoyed the camaraderie of their monthly retirees meetings and lunches.
After retirement he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, puzzles, garage sales, breakfast with friends and he also read extensively.
His greatest joys were spending time at the cottage on Bush Lake, and getting together with extended family and friends.
He will always be in the hearts of those who knew him and will be remembered for his kindness to all.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s honor may be made to the Capuchins.
Inurnment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at a later date.
