

Joseph Gerard Fortier died on Monday, January 21, 2013. Joe was born August 4, 1956. He was the son of Callista Madalene Fortier and (the late) Charles Matthew Fortier. Joe attended St. Scholastica School; he was an altar server at St. Scholastica Church. In 1975, Joe graduated from University of Detroit High School. Joe attended college at the University of Detroit and Wayne State University. He worked at Henry Ford Hospital Sleep Center for 28 years. For many of those years, Joe was a sleep clinic supervisor for the Henry Ford Hospital Sleep Clinic. Joe was very knowledgeable and current in the field of sleep studies and research. He was a valuable resource to some sleep experts who branched out opening other sleep clinics in Metro Detroit. Joe later worked at VA Medical Center for about two years.
Joe was a strong and caring man and a loving father. He was an avid reader of novels, politics, history, marine biology, among other types of books. He was also active in local politics and was interested in and informed about the current events in the news and in the latest advances in science. He had a quick wit and great sense of humor. In his early life, Joe was a strong swimmer, a lifeguard, and scuba diver. Joseph was predeceased by his father Charles, and brother Raymond. Joe is survived by his mother, C. Madalene, his daughter Michelle (Roger) Jump, his grandson Brayden Joseph, and his brothers Paul (Samiri), John (Pamela), Matthew (Jean), Philip, and several nieces and nephews, and many relatives and friends.
Wake Visitation hours: Friday 3-9 p.m. at Kaul Funeral Home 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores. Friday, Rosary at 6:30 p.m.; Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass: Saturday, 11:30 a.m. (In-State) Mass of the Resurrection: 12 noon, Our Lady of Hope Church, St. Gertrude Campus, 28839 Jefferson Ave.( located between Martin Rd. and 12 Mile Rd.), Saint Clair Shores, MI 48082.
