Joyce Ann Wiekrykas, age 62, passed away on September 30, 2025. She was born on July 26, 1963, in Detroit, Michigan to her late parents Joseph and Helen Wiekrykas. Joyce is survived by her loving siblings: Joseph (the late Virginia), Nancy (Patrick) Folk; dear nieces and nephews: Carolyn (James) DeMates, Carmen (Daniel) Conrad, Grace Dodson; great-nephew: Joey; and great-great nephew and niece: Joseph and Vivianna. She was preceded in death by her brother, David and nephew, Joe.
Joyce kept her home meticulous for the comfort of her beloved cats, whom she nurtured with only the best quality food, heated blankets, and giving her lap and shoulders to. She loved her Tonkinese cats but she also took in strays and loved them equally with her whole heart. She was an avid and talented gardener, sharing her knowledge and inspiring her nieces, tending not only her garden but her aging parents' large vegetable garden, as well. When not in her garden, Joyce spent her time crocheting, sewing, and crafting, mostly giving away her creations to family, friends, and as donations. She enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen, trying new recipes, making loaves of nut roll, and spent hours making pierogi from scratch with her sister.
Joyce loved her family and friends. She went camping up north with her siblings, logged thousands of miles in mini-van road trips out west with her sister's family, cruised Alaska, and visited extended family in Pennsylvania. Her favorite vacation places were Mackinac Island and the Traverse City area. She talked on the phone with cousins and friends and enjoyed having people over for dinner, sitting in the backyard, and playing pool or darts. She enjoyed shopping with her sister. She prioritized her nieces, taking them out to eat, to art festivals, having sleepovers, walking to church with them, buying them sugary cereal or making applesauce pancakes, and always extended a listening ear.
Joyce's faith was very important to her. She was a devoted Catholic, attending mass weekly, joining Bible study groups, attended church fundraising walks and festivals, and eating at fish frys. She was a very happy and uplifting person. She had the sweetest heart and taught through her actions the value of loving the little things.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. (Instate 9:00 a.m.) at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 22412 Overlake St., St. Clair Shores. Burial will follow at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.
