OBITUARY

Katherine Ann Hendricks

November 27, 1921November 24, 2019

Katherine (Lafata) Hendricks, born in Detroit, MI, November 27, 1921, died on November 24, 2019.

Katherine (Katie) was of the “Rosie the Riveter” Era. She worked for Park Wolverine during WWII, and her job was to operate a punch press that stamped out 50 caliber bullets. She met James Hendricks at that time while he served the Navy. They were married July 6, 1944 until his death in 1980. Her five brothers and sisters in law, Tony, (Ann) Joseph, Frank, (Jennie) William, (Martha Erna) and Vince, (Rose) also preceded her in death.

She was the loving mother of Diane (Ted) Puchyr, and son, James (Andrea) Hendricks, proud grandmother of Marnie (Craig) Davisson, and Tj Puchyr and companion, Kim Ward, Great grandmother of Hunter, Owen, Audrey, and Connor. Lynn (Mark) Bitonti, Kristen (Bob) Ernst, six Great grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren. She is survived by a very dear sister in law, Tedi Lafata, and many nieces and nephews and friends. Katie’s longtime friend, Alice Trupiano, passed in September, as well as a very dear friend, Jean Boos from Canada, July of 2017.

Katie was a lifetime believer of giving and doing for others. She always remembered to send cards for special occasions or “Just Because.” She loved to cook, especially a favorite, eggplant parmesan, up until recently before her Passing. She loved sharing her special desserts with others. She frequently baked her well known “Funeral cake” for loved one’s family. Katie loved working in her yard with her many rosebushes and various flowers until she could no longer due to balance issues. Her last years were mainly spent watching the many beautiful birds that gathered at the feeders in her yard, and her love for reading.

She would like to thank Michigan Community VNC, especially, Jena Owsiany, visiting Hospice nurse. Jena was always so very kind and attentive to our mother. Also, Dr. D’addario and PA, Kimberly Cannon, along with her dear neighbor Jan Lupo, and the staff of Eastside Internal Medicine, and the Comfort Care Caregivers. A special Thank you to Reverend William Lawrence, her nephew, for officiating the services. Celebration of Katherine’s life will be at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave. St. Clair Shores, MI, on Friday November 29, 2019, beginning at 10:00 am until time of service at 11:30 am.

Ruth Boos

Dear Diane and Ted, Jim and Andrea, and families,

Kate was a wonderful, loyal friend to our mother for decades, since the Fordham Street days, when Kate and her family lived next door to our Mom’s dear aunt. Over the years, they enjoyed spending time together — laughing, shopping and socializing. Our Mom loved treating Kate to her homemade, authentic Canadian butter tarts and freshly-picked strawberries from the farm.

In our mother’s last two years, when she could no longer express herself, her very favourite thing to do was to have us phone Kate so that she could hear her voice. Although Mom could no longer respond, she never stopped smiling while Kate told her stories and reminisced about the “good old days”. These are very special memories for all of us, and we are very grateful to Kate.

Know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May precious memories, along with the care and concern of loving family and friends, help to comfort you at this gentle time.

With love always,
The family of Jean Boos
Ruth-Ann, Mary, Margaret, Stephen (Diane) and children

Unfortunately I will not be able to make it to her funeral but I do remember Katie very well we were neighbors on Fordham Street, in Detroit. I remember her two kids a very loving family and Katie and Jim were always so nice to us. When I seen this it brought back so many memories. I miss those days on Fordham in Detroit. Prayers and love are with you and your family.

Dear family of Kate, the Barnard family of Fordham street sends out our condolences in the loss of your mother, grandmother and great great grandmother. We have many memories of her, she would send beautiful birthday cards every year to my parent's up north when they finally moved out from Fordham. My father Eugene passed away 4 years ago at 90. Mom Sylvia is 87 and when we found out about her passing, she broke down and cried for the loss of a good friend. As your parents severed, as well as my dad (Navy), they had a lot to talk about when they went to visit her. She will be missed, for one day we will all be back together, in time, to remenance in the great land above us when GOD brings us all home. God bless all of you.

Katie will be so missed by those of us left here but hopefully knowing she was ready for God's embrace gives us some comfort.
I'm sure she and Alice have been chatting non-stop. Alice loved her so deeply and was so grateful for her and their relationship. She was always was filling us in on what was going on with Katie.
Katie has sent Mike and I birthday cards and Christmas cards for years, she was so thoughtful.
Katie has been part of the family for forever and will be dearly missed and thought of often!
Love Mike and Sue Trupiano
