I am proud and so fortunate to say that Lova was my wonderful aunt and godmother.   I am blessed to have such great memories of special times with Aunt Lova.  My memories include how multi-talented she was as a seamstress, home decorator, crafts, cooking (she made the best Shepherds pie), and golf.  All of which I had the pleasure of witnessing and enjoying first hand.   Aunt Lova and my mom were fabulous hosts of many Warfield gatherings.  I am sure they are reminiscing right now.  I remember and cherish the memories of sleep-overs at the house on Danbury street, cottage vacations up north, Metro Beach outings, cider mills and lunches out.  She was charming, classy, and loving.  

Aunt Lova, thanks for the memories, 3 treasured cousins, and your beautiful grand children. 

Lova was my Aunt. I remember her being so sweet, an excellent cook, and I remember my mom taking sewing classes from her! I always thought she was so classy - and every memory I have of her... she is smiling. I am comforted to know that she is in Heaven (no doubt!) visiting friends and relatives who have gone before her. I will never forget her  :) 

Lova loved golfing. once a year my two brothers, Jim, Dan, myself and Lova would spend the entire day golfing. Yes that was 36 holes. In order to make things even more interesting we would bet a quarter for the longest drive on each hole. I know you are probably thinking how unfair to take advantage of a woman against three big, strong men. Well.... We three , (big, strong, handsome men ) would out drive her almost every time. However, with her keen and analitical mind she had negotiated rules! Yes rules! The rule that you must land in the fairway . The fairway? We don’t even know where that is, let alone land in it. I think you know where this is going. Lova knew where the fairway was and how to land in it! We could drive the ball a long ways but NEVER straight. Lova always came out ahead but funny thing is I don’t ever remember paying her. I don’t ever remember her asking for payment. Maybe we can play again in heaven. I am going to start working on that. Lova was a gentle lady who seemed to have it all. Intelligence, grace, glam and a wicked sense of humor. Not to forget warmth that radiated from her smile like you would not believe. I felt privileged and honored to have known Lova. My sympathies, to the family of this very special treasure. 

Thank you to all who have reached out over the last few days.  Over & over I heard the words beautiful, elegant, classy,  a role model and she was all of those and more.  She had a hysterical side, too.

When we were living in Charlotte, NC, she came to visit by herself in the summer of 1989.  One day I wanted to take her to lunch at a nice restaurant in the Lake Norman area.  It was a beautiful Victorian home turned restaurant where you would imagine proper Southern ladies would meet for lunch & tea.  We were seated in the blue room decked out with lace and china.  The restaurant was full when we arrived and we were seated toward the back of the room.  At some point I left the table to use the restroom leaving Mom with Stephen.  When I returned to the table, there was Mom with 4 spoons hanging off her face - nose, cheeks & chin!  Well, she got what she wanted because I know I had the look of horror on my face when I saw her!  I was mortified as I looked around the room hoping no one saw my crazy mom!  She had a good laugh at my expense, but I wouldn't trade that day for anything in the world!  She was the best!

She loved to decorate.  Dad went on two trips a year (golfing and hunting) and while he was gone she would usually redo a room - wallpaper and all!  Also, when I was little and dad was away, I got to sleep in my mom’s bed with her and we went out to dinner every night!

When I graduated from college, she and dad came up and she even came out on the dance floor at the college bar with Allison and me.  

She loved to golf, walk, swim and read.  

I could go on and on. 

She was a wonderful mom, a ton of fun, my biggest cheerleader, and my favorite person all those years.  Sadly, due to nasty Alzheimer’s for almost 20 years, we kind of lost her already and we kind of ended up taking care of her.  But I’ll always remember her for who she was before all that - my  mom.  

My mom had such great style, and killer clothes.  I would “borrow” (aka sneak) them when I was still living at home and working.  And she was a savvy shopper - if she found something she wanted, she’d try on, even love it, and then leave it and say “it’ll go on sale and I’ll come back for it. If it doesn’t or if I miss it, then I didn’t need it.”  Such discipline!  

She was a sewer and made some clothes for me in elementary school (I wore them, but sadly as I got a little older, I was a jerk and only wanted store brands- not the few clothes she made me.  Wish I had them now!).  

When I was in elementary school, she went back to college at night and earned her associates degree. 

When I was a teen/in twenties and in the car with her, she’d let me listen to my music because she said it would keep her young.  

She loved to sing and dance (she was self-admittedly not a great singer and we had many laughs over that). When I was in high school(?), she even took tap dance lessons, just because she always wanted to, and she would practice in our basement.  She loved musicals, as do I, and we saw many together.   

She and a friend had season tickets to the Detroit Symphony Pops series. When her friend couldn’t make it, I would go with mom. Then we’d stop at The Ghost Bar at The Whitney in Detroit for a late nightcap - a cool, dark, throwback type place- and the bartender and even the jazzy older man and lady who were the entertainment knew my mom and would greet her.  I thought that was so cool.   

She loved chocolate- specifically those extra big Hershey bars with almonds- and she would hide them.  I knew her hiding places and would sneak bites whenever I got the chance.  Also, we’d always get Sanders hot fudge cream puffs together.  

She regularly ran interference between me and my dad- whew!
