December 15th, 1954– April 25th, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marc David Meldrum, 70, of St. Clair Shores who left us peacefully on April 25th surrounded by the love of his family.
Marc was born on December 15th in Detroit, the son of Paul and Pauline Meldrum. From a young age Marc demonstrated a heart full of kindness and a sense of humor that could light up any room. He was the type of person who would offer the shirt off his back to help anyone in need, always putting others before himself. His generosity and love for his family and friends was unmatched.
Marc was married to the absolute love of his life, Janis Valdez, in September of 1986. For over 38 years Marc and Janis together built a life full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Above all, Marc was a devoted father to his three daughters and bonus daughter: Andrea (Bill) Gurchiek, Ashleigh (Ian) Isaacs, Alyssa (Dan) Medore and Amy (Amanda) Simas-Lambert. He loved them with all his heart and took immense pride in being their dad. Marc was a constant source of strength, love, and humor. His daughters were the center of his world, and he always made sure they knew how much they meant to him. In addition to the love he had for his daughters, he had even more love to share with his seven grandchildren; Brandon, Jenna, Kira, Noah, Jack, Cody and Savannah. He was the most amazing Papa, Pop Pop, and fishing buddy to these children who loved him so fiercely.
Marc’s humor was one of his most cherished qualities. He had a way of making everyone around him smile, often with a perfectly timed joke or funny story. At times, Marc could be a man of little words until he had a cold beverage in his hand and friends and family around. His stories were always funny and from his past experiences in life. His daughters will forever carry with them the sound of their dad’s laughter.
As the owner of Marc Meldrum Masonry Marc poured his heart into his work, spending many years serving the community. His reputation for dedication, quality, and integrity reflected in every ounce of concrete he touched.
Outside of his work Marc had a deep love for Michigan’s UP. It was more than a place—it was a part of him. One of his greatest joys in life was spending weeks at Camp Cowabunga with his brother, Phil. There, surrounded by nature, Marc did what he loved most: campfires, hunting, taking a sauna, swapping stories, and drinking a cold beer. Those days were full of laughter, simplicity, and connection—the kind of simple moments that become legends in a family. His stories from those trips will be told for generations, remembered with smiles, and honored with every future journey north.
Marc is predeceased by his parents, Paul & Pauline Meldrum and brother, Kenny Meldrum. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Denise (Leonard) Reese, Annette (Steve) Sabotta, Phil (Wendy) Meldrum, Jerome (Becky) Meldrum and his many nieces and nephews whom he loved so very much. Marc will be missed by his many friends and neighbors who became family.
A celebration of life in Marc’s honor will be held at a later date in the summer. The family invites all who knew Marc to join them in remembering and honoring the incredible man he was.
