Mary "Bernie" Theresa Bernadine Goodman

September 25, 1924September 7, 2021

Mary Theresa Bernadine Goodman, best known to almost everyone as "Bernie", passed away on September 7 at American House East 1 Freedom Place in Roseville Michigan. Born in Zurich, Ontario Canada to Dennis and Theresa Ducharme, she moved to Detroit in the early 1940s where she trained as a hair stylist, began her working career, and met her husband, John A. "Jack" Goodman of Pennsylvania who predeceased her in 2003.

Bernie lived and worked in the Detroit area for more than fifty years as a hair stylist and cosmetologist. Devoted to a faith life she shared with Jack, both gave generously of their time for many years to charitable and outreach activities at St. Joan of Arc Parish and St. Bonaventure Capuchin Monastery. When work and service provided opportunity for recreation, travel, cards and bingo were favourite activities of choice

Bernie is survived by her sisters: Shirley Gurzo of Windsor, Ontario and Agnes Lavin (Gerry) of Maidstone, Ontario; by her brothers, Irvin Ducharme (Julie) of Chatham, Ontario and David Ducharme (Lynda) of London, Ontario; by her sisters-in-law, Marge Ducharme of Roseville, Michigan and Eleanor Goodman of Toms River, New Jersey and by her brother-in-law, James Goodman Sr. (Joan) of Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in both the United States and Canada.

Bernie is predeceased by her brothers Dennis (1986), Donald (2012) and Leo (2017) Ducharme; by her brothers-in-law Steve Gurzo (2018) and Joseph (2019), Thomas (2002) and Cornelius (2001) Goodman, and by her sisters-in-law Rita (1988) and Claire Ducharme (2011), and Marie (2012) and Shirley (2007) Goodman.

Bernie's family extend special thanks to Dr. George Afram, the management and staff at American House East 2, American House East 1 Freedom Place and Careline Medical and Hospice Services, and to Steve and Linda Ducharme and Diane Dippoliti for their care and support of Bernie and the kindness with which it was given. "Well done good and faithful servant; ... enter into the joy of your Lord." Matthew 25:23.

Dear Aunt Bernie;
Love you with all my heart, think about you often. So unfortunate that we were unable to visit with you during covid and unable to say our goodbyes like we would have liked too.
I know you are in a better place today, as the last few years must have been extremely hard. Give Grandma and Grandpa and all my uncles and aunts a hug for me, i miss them too.
You always had an amazing smile and giggle, I loved spending time with you when i was able. Your spirit and love for life was so great for a woman in her 90's. You were always kind, caring, and i never ever heard you complain. Until we meet again...pray for us !
