October 28, 1953 to October 5, 2021
Patrick was the first child born to James and Sara (Vermeulen) Jackman on October 28, 1953, 40 weeks and 3 days after his father returned from the armed services. It was the last time he would arrive on time for anything.
Patrick was baptized in the Catholic faith and attended St. Gertrude Elementary School in St. Clair Shores and graduated from Lake Shore High School in 1971.
He entered Northern Michigan University that fall and was active in the student newspaper, often writing satire and Op-Ed pieces. He was also a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) serving for a time as the Fraternity's President. He was an avid downhill skier having taken up the sport as a pre-teen.
After graduation Patrick returned to the Detroit area. He tried his hand at a few jobs until he found his heart and home with the Detroit Police Department where he graduated with top academic honors and served at several precincts and TSS. He retired from the department in 2019 after over 25 years and having achieved the rank of Lieutenant.
Patrick married Francis Dunn on September 20, 1986. Together they welcomed their daughter, Erin Francis, son James Patrick, and his niece Jacqueline Weredick. Although Francis was diagnosed with Lupus early in their marriage they met those challenges together, carving out a family. Patrick lost Francis to the disease while both children were still school aged. Patrick carried the family forward thru the loss.
Patrick loved boats, and did finally obtain his dream of owning a boat upon his retirement.
He was a waling audible encyclopedia on musicians and bands of all genres. He enjoyed a good debate and bad golf games.
Patrick was predeceased by his parents Jim and Sara Jackman, his wife Francis (Dunn), brother Brian, and nephew Terrence Jr.
He is survived by his daughter Erin, son James, daughter in law Chase (Shonka) and the light of his life, granddaughter Bailey Frances Jackman. He is also survived by his sister Janice (Jackman) VanDePotte, and brother Terence, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
