Paul Vincent Schmidt, age 88, passed away on July 29, 2026. He was born on May 3, 1938 to parents, Cyril and Lucille Schmidt. Paul will be remembered with deep respect and lasting affection by all who knew him. He was a beloved presence in the lives of many—steady in faith, diligent in his work, and unfailingly kind in the ways that mattered most. Paul was a resident of Clinton Township, Michigan.
Paul graduated from Servite Catholic High School, class of 1955. He continued his education at Wayne State University, earning a BS in Business Administration in 1960. These early years reflected a lifelong commitment to responsibility and perseverance, qualities that remained evident throughout his life.
As a young man, Paul held a paper route for many years, learning the value of hard work through daily dedication. After college, he began a long career with General Motors, spending many years in the automotive industry and ultimately becoming a manager. Paul retired after many years of steadfast service, respected for his reliability and the quiet integrity he brought to his work.
Paul was the loving father of Mark A. (Daniel Sapp) Schmidt. He is survived by his former wife, Joan Schmidt, who remained a loving friend throughout the years, and his cherished sister Suzanne LeFevre. Paul’s legacy will also continue to live on though his beloved nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Schmidt and wife Barbara Schmidt.
Paul found genuine joy in the simple, meaningful rhythms of life—going to lunch with friends, spending time with family, and appreciating good food and good company. Those who shared a meal with him knew his warmth and his easy appreciation for the moment; as many will fondly recall, there was never a restaurant that Paul didn’t like.
Paul will lie in-state at St. Hubert Catholic Church 38775 Prentiss Street, Harrison Township, Michigan, 48045, on Friday, July 31, 2026, beginning at 10:00 am until time of mass at 11:00 am.
Memorial donations in memory of Paul are suggested to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Leukemia Society.
