Phyllis was born March 9, 1936, in Kansas City, MO to Veronisa and Leonard Riley. She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1954, and spent her freshman year of college at Wichita State.
Phyllis married Dwayne McClure on March 2, 1957, in Kansas City, MO. During their 62 year marriage, Phyllis and Dwayne lived in Kansas City, MO, Neosho, MO, Picayune, MS, Nazareth, PA and Bella Vista AR, where they retired in 1996.
Phyllis was an expert tennis player with a fierce and competitive drive. She played at the Northwood Racquet Club in Easton, PA for over 20 years. She absolutely loved and cherished all animals, specifically dogs and had too many over the years to list. Her favorite breed, in her later years, was the Scottish and West Highland terriers. When she was not showcasing her tennis talent, she graciously offered her love and knowledge of animals to the Northside Animal Hospital in Bethlehem, PA. After retirement, Phyllis did not slow down. “Muffy”, Phillie, Snoonie, PhilPhil, as she was lovingly called by her friends and family, began swimming and biking. She also volunteered at a horse ranch in Arkansas in a therapeutic horse riding program, Horses for Healing in Bentonville, AR. Phyllis also loved to travel. She and Dwayne traveled extensively before he retired. They spent time in France, Egypt & Israel. After retirement, Phyllis was blessed to travel with her dear friend Jen to Europe on a 3 week trip, including Switzerland, France, Italy and Vatican City. The highlight of this trip was by far seeing the Lipizzan Stallions perform.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dwayne McClure; her two children, Mitch McClure and daughter- in- law, Honey McClure, Jane Ann McClure Ruffing and son-in-law, CJ Ruffing; and her four grandchildren; Riley, Nick, Max and Kathleen Ruffing.
