Uncle Ray was a second father to me.
Not only was he my uncle, and Godfather, he was a great guy

When I was growing up, he was a teacher, so he had the summers off.
He also was single, with no responsibilities.
So how did he take advantage of all that free time?
He spent it with us, his nieces and nephews.

Countless times he took me to Belle Isle or Palmer Park to watch him play handball.
I fed the pigeons and the ducks at the Palmer Park.
I swam in the Detroit river at Belle Isle, saw the Dossin Great Lakes museum and the Aquarium, and rode in the horse-drawn buggies.
We made many trips to his houses on Pontiac Lake and Watkins Lake to go boating and fishing.
He’d drive all the way to Mt. Clemens to come get us.

When he’d visit, as he left, he'd always flash his headlights to say "Good Bye" to us.
Beause of him, I started doing the same thing whenever I left my nieces' and nephews' houses.

All my interest in sports came from Uncle Ray.
When I was 5, he organized a game of baseball with my friends and me.
We used some spare linoleum kitchen tiles for bases.
I kept throwing the bat when I batted.
It was the first time I ever played baseball.
He got me interested in the Tigers in 1968. I remember riding in his red Dodge Dart, listening to the radio, and going to a grocery store and getting iron-on t-shirt decals showing the Tiger players’ faces.
He taught me how to throw a football, and took me golfing for the first time.
He taught me to snow ski, water ski, and play handball.
He gave me my first driving lessons, in both cars and boats.

Later on, he moved in with us.
I remember making a pin-hole camera with him to watch an eclipse, and making model rockets.
We watched the Tigers, Red Wings, and Monday Night Football.
I remember him playing guitar.
When my sisters would have slumber parties, Uncle Ray would organize some scheme to scare them with me.

There were a mountain of great times and wonderful things he did both for and with us.

He will be dearly missed.

Til mI had Mr. Doucet for HS math - both Algebra & Trig. 
I thought that he was an eccentric character and fun to tease but what did I know as a young  teen.
One time all of us guys in his class wore outlandish, crazy ‘n colorful ties. We sat quietly until a 1/4 of the way thru  class Mr. Doucet realized what was going on. He studied each one of our ties then said “ well done”. He took the gag in stride ‘n  laughed..
Mr. Douceat In a memorable  attempt was trying to teach us the concept of spatial pool - I never understood what he was doing until my college days at Lawrence  Tech - Mechanical Engineering) . The other discipline that he taught me in Trig  Class was  how to- effectively use and successfully apply  a surveor’s transit. in relation to the math appellation. - using Trig.
It is is sad to hear of his passing . Wh at a memorable individual . May he Rest! In Peace.    Gary J. Becker  graduated  Class of 1963

Mr. Doucet was my 10th grade Geometry teacher. Although this was not my best math class, he had patience to work with me to do the problem solving of each theorem. Wonderful teacher. Thank you for caring for your students. Rest In Peace Mr. Doucet. My sincere regrets to his family.


Ray was such a sweet man. He loved to chat and pet the dogs. Chopper was lucky to have Ray as his daddy. I am sure Chopper (and Dewey) greeted Ray upon his arrival in heaven. Eddie and I will miss waiving to Ray as he sat in his lazy-boy chair. The neighborhood won’t be the same without him. We will miss Ray for certain, but he not worry, as we will look after Jane. May he Rest In Peace.

I liked Ray as a colleague at Fitzgerald and Macomb CC.

I first knew Ray as Mr. Doucet, my geometry teacher. I hated geometry but tried my best. I was borderline C-/D and Mr. Doucet gave me C. I could have kissed him. Over the following years he would tell me I earned that C because I was in the first "tracked" class Fitzgerald had and in a regular class I'd have a C. We went from being teacher- student to lifelong friends. While finishing my junior year at U of D, I subbed for another former teacher, Mrs. Fran Kystad  who was out with back surgery. A few doors down the hall Les Kubalak was teaching junior high social studies. He was the brother of my good friend Charlotte. He was five years older than me and I had had a crush on him. Les  was also a friend of Ray's and Bill Gagnon, a former English teacher and my all-time favorite teacher and life long friend.  Les asked me out to go drinking with several teachers. I was still referring to them as Mr. and Mrs. Ray and Bill and several others went out regularly.  A special few of them from that first get together would become dear friends of Les and me. Many Fitz teachers attended our wedding on August 4, 1967.
After Les died in 1971, I would continue to see Ray and Marie and Bill Gagnon many, many times.
Ray was a good teacher but the best lesson I learned from him relates to my becoming an English teacher: when you know a student is trying his/her best, give them credit for that.
Ray was a gentle soul with a beautiful smile and good sense of humor. He will be missed by his Fitzgerald family and many others. Condolences to his wife and family.

Hail and farewell, friend of 75 years: Classmates at Catholic Central High School and the University of Detroit, fellow faculty at Fitzgerald High School in Warren. 
we double dated to our high school prom, worked on the high-school yearbook which you edited, played pool at Florek's, and discussed church politics for years.
You were best man when Marie and I married almost 55 years ago,
and have been a close friend for the best part  of a century. 
I'll miss you, Ray.
