Roger Francis Kowalski, age 77, of St. Clair Shores, Michigan passed away peacefully at home under the care of Hospice on Sunday, September 21, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. His wife and family were by his side.
Roger was born in Dearborn, Michigan to Francis and Josephine Kowalski. Beloved husband to Kathleen for 33 years. Loving stepfather to Susan (Joseph) Barker and Elizabeth (Vincent) Pizzo. Dear brother to Cynthia (Henry) Rosinski and Brother-in-Law to Cynthia (Gregory) Zylla, Chester (Laura) Carey, and David (Elizabeth) Carey. Roger was preceded in death by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law and their spouses Joyce (Richard) Castillo and Raymond (Ann Marie) Carey. Roger will also be missed by nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, one great great niece and all those who knew and loved him.
Roger had a wonderful work ethic. He started working for the railroad at a young age and eventually worked his way up to Project Engineer where his role as a supervisor continued up until his retirement. He was well respected as a boss and loved by his coworkers, many of whom became his lifelong friends.
He absolutely loved being outdoors, whether to fish, hunt, boat, or just sit on his porch at his cottage up north where he hosted many of his closest friends and family. When he wasn’t up north, he enjoyed simple family time. At home with his wife, who he fondly called by her middle name “Opal” he enjoyed her cooking and just sitting in his recliner watching sports. He was a huge hometown fan, especially for the Tigers, Lions and the Wolverines.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 23rd beginning with a gathering at 9AM until the time of mass at 10:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church 22412 Overlake St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48080.
