Dr. Scott Thomas Monson, age 73, of Harrison Township, MI, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, after a decade long battle with ALS. He was born on June 20, 1951, to parents Dr. Robert C. Monson and Lorraine Monson. He was the beloved husband of 50 years to his high school sweetheart, Rebecca Monson; father to Stacey (Richard) Soltis and Dr. Benjamin (Crystal) Monson; and cherished “Pappy” to Elle Soltis, Layla Monson, Kaitlyn Soltis, and Landan Monson.
Rebecca was both the love of his life and best friend. With her, they made countless wonderful memories throughout the years. To him, heaven was found in the outdoors with golfing, fishing, and hunting being just few of his passions. This was where he found God. He was an avid fan of The University of Michigan where he and his children earned their undergraduate degrees, and he held season football tickets his entire adult life, bleeding maize and blue through and through. His ability to spread laughter and love was unparalleled. He was a brilliant man who took the saying “work hard, play hard” to the next level. He instilled in his children the importance of this balance and always encouraged them to live life to the fullest.
He had an insatiable love for learning, and his knowledge of topics ranging from general knowledge to complicated physics/science was nothing short of astounding. With all his wisdom and education, he remained one of the most humble, down-to-earth people a person could meet. An unassuming, fun-loving surgeon is hard to come by, but he embodied these characteristics, unrivaled.
Scott was preceded in death by his three siblings Sharron, Roberta, and Robert. He will be missed dearly by all those who knew him including family, friends, and patients. His passing leaves a hole that will never be filled, but the good he brought to this world will never be forgotten, nor will the knowledge and love he passed to all that he touched.
“Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation. For they are us; our bodies are only wilted leaves on the tree of life.” -Albert Einstein
