Stephen Frederick Lathrop

Stephen Frederick Lathrop, 76, passed away on August 28, 2026. Born on December 5, 1949, to parents Sidney and Julia Lathrop. Steve was a resident of Harrison Township, formally of St. Clair Shores, Michigan. He will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who knew him well.

Steve graduated from Lakeview High School and Eastern Michigan University and later served in the Army National Guard, carrying forward a steady sense of duty and commitment that remained evident throughout his life. His years of service reflected a quiet selflessness and a readiness to do what was needed, simply because it was right.

A hard-working and dedicated professional, Steve spent his working career with Jack Cauley Chevrolet and Cauley Ferrari dealership, as Chief Financial Officer. His career was marked by reliability, careful stewardship, and the kind of integrity that earns lasting trust and admiration.

Steve was the beloved husband of 55 years to Beverly E. Lathrop. He was also a devoted father to several fur babies, most recently Stanley and Benzie, and he took genuine joy in the companionship and love they brought to his home. Stephen was the loving brother of Michael (Sharon) Lathrop, Pamela J. Lathrop, and Scott (Kathy) Lathrop, and a dear brother-in-law to Cheryl Burda. He was a cherished uncle to Brad (Kelly) Lathrop, Abbey (Mike) Gough, Meredith (Jason) Collins, Jessica (Joe) Caiozzo, and Mandy (Philip) Kinsella, and a great uncle to 7 nieces and nephews.

In his personal life, Steve found happiness in golf, fishing, boating, and travel. He was a member of the Clinton River Boat Club. He was especially proud of his “green thumb” and loved to garden, tending to what he planted with patience and care. He also enjoyed crafting, and in all he did, his kind-hearted nature showed through—thoughtful in spirit, generous with his time, and steadfastly devoted to those he loved most: his family and his pets.

Steve will be profoundly missed, and warmly remembered, for the love he gave, the work he quietly shouldered, and the steady goodness he brought into the lives around him.
