I worked with Steve for 15 years and we butted heads a lot over work related things. No matter how frustrating I was to him, he was always calm and respectful to me. I will miss him saying to me, " Now hold on there" and hearing that laugh.

I met Steve about 7 years ago when I started to date his youngest son, Ryan. Since that very first day we met, he welcomed me into his home and family with open arms. He has the warmest heart & always went out of his way to help others. He’s also the biggest goofball with the most dad jokes! I couldn’t have been blessed with a better Father-In-Law.

I love you and will miss you forever, Steve.

I am grateful to have known Steve through one of my very first jobs. Steve, you brought the best out of each work day by cracking a joke and always thinking positive! Whether it was talking about movies, music, sports, or life in general you provided an interesting perspective on it all. I really think you were Van Halen’s biggest fan and I still got some of your odd version of lyrics stuck in my head like “You are on your way to Mandalay”? I am scratching my head on this one but it still is catchy! Anyways, thank you for taking the time to mentor and display great work ethics. You were an inspiring person that I will never forget! May God welcome you with open arms as you did for me on my first day of work. We will miss you dearly!

Our hearts are broken over this. My husband Ray and Steve coached our sons in roller hockey so that is how we met. Even though our sons are grown and we did not see each other often we are so blessed to have known this wonderful man and his wife Kathy and their two sons Alan and Ryan. I want to let Kathy and the boys know they are in our thoughts and prayers. We can not even imagine your sadness. Sending our love at this very sad and difficult time.

Steve was truly one of the good guys. He cared about everyone that he came in contact with. Had the pleasure of coaching with him and he taught me so much! He taught his players so much more than just hockey. He was a fantastic coach, friend, father and family man. He touched so many lives in a short period of time. He will be sorely missed. I am so blessed to have known him. God bless to the Dettloff family.

The news of Steve's passing came to a complete and utter shock to us; to everyone I'm sure. Steve and Kathy were such a welcoming, loving couple. They opened their home and hearts to everyone. Steve was such an awesome hockey coach as well and the kids he coached loved him dearly. He had a special way of coaching that his kids responded to. I can still see that smile he always had on his face and the warm laughter of his. He was one of he most sincere and caring persons we had the privilege of knowing. He would do anything for anyone. You will be missed so much Steve. Kathy, Alan and Ryan, we are so deeply sorry for your loss.

Love, Mark & Becky Sackman
