The family of Jay Bailey is deeply saddened by his passing on October 13, 2011. Jay was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years; Marie Bailey and his son-in-law Jack Roland Martin. He is survived by his loving and adoring daughters Anita Yonehana and Kathleen Martin, son-in-law Kazuhiko Yonehana, his grandchildren John, Chris and Anna, a brother Don Bailey and many nephews and nieces.
Born in Mechanicville, New York to Georgiana and David Bailey he was a beloved sibling to three brothers and three sisters. As a young man he served in the Army Air corps in World War II. He married Marie in 1942 in Dalhart Texas and then moved to Pacific Grove, California where he had a rewarding career with Pacific Bell. After many years in Monterey County they moved to Lake Tahoe, Nevada where he worked as machinist. In 1992 he retired and moved Calistoga, California where he had many interests and hobbies that included research. He wrote articles for various journals he would have liked to have had published. He also enjoyed handyman work, cooking, singing, guitar playing, and entertaining family and friends. He also enjoyed volunteer work for the Calistoga reading program. Jay was a loving, charming and wonderful person with a great since of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and those who were lucky to have met him.
A graveside service will be held at St. Helena Cemetery in St. Helena California on October 21, 2011at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Senior Nutrition of Napa Valley/Meals on Wheels or Napa Valley Hospice on Jay’s behalf. A memorial service will also be held in February 2012. Arrangements under the direction of Morrison Funeral Chapel, St. Helena, CA.
