Dorothy was the daughter of James Hubbard, a brick setter from Croydon, England who immigrated to Delson, Quebec in 1912. Her mother, Johanna, died when she was about 12 years old and Dorothy took over the care of the household and remaining children. Despite the challenges, some of her fondest memories were from these days in Delson.
In 1958, Dorothy married Donald Lafleche and enjoyed 56 years of marriage before he passed away in September 2014. Together, they travelled throughout North America, first on motorcycle, and then by truck and camper. Dorothy is survived by sister-in-law Gladys in Brome, and many nieces and nephews who miss their Auntie ‘Dot’.
Dorothy was a tireless volunteer, comforting the old and ill with songs and prayer. She spent many days in seniors’ homes and with her comfort, even the frailest could sing, cry, and pray with company during their long days alone. Always the first to help, she and Donald were recognized by the federal and provincial governments for their volunteer service during the devastating ice storm in 1988. She loved her church and her Lord Jesus and was a giving soul.
Warm thanks to the congregation and pastors at the South Shore Community Church in Greenfield Park. Dorothy often spoke of how the church provided the community and fellowship that she and Donald cherished. Special mention to Ann and Grace, wonderful friends for Dorothy who supported her through her senior years. A service for Dorothy will be held at the church in June.
