Suddenly after a courageous battle with cancer, John passed away at home on April 17, 2012. He was predeceased by his parents Ted and Edith Bates, devoted step-mother Ruth, his father-in-law Robert Greene and brother-in-law Wayne Greene.
He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of 47 years as well as his cherished sons Michael (Diler) and Matthew (Anne Marie), his mother-in-law Hilda Greene, his sister-in-law Winona (Bernie), his very special niece Kelly Webster (Ian) and grand niece Faith, his nephew Curtis (Thania), grand nephews Michael and Taylor and many cousins in England and Australia, as well as lifelong firends Wendell and Nadia Coffin.
John was born in Warwickshire, England. He attended the University of London (Engineering), Concordia University (Bachelor of Commerce) and McGill University (MBA). He worked for Rolls Royce, England and Pratt & Whitney, Canada and McGill University.
Upon his retirement in 1995, he enjoyed immensely his travels with family and friends all over the world. John's special interests were golf, tennis, biking and watching car racing. Visiting Cape Cod and Florida were his highlignts.
We will always remeber John for his love of his family, wonderful sense of fun, quick wit, positive attitude to life and the ability to make us all laugh at his many jokes.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Doctors L. Ferri, R. Tabah, A.J. McLean, J. Spicer, The wonderful staff of the MMontreal General Hospital, 11 East and Samuel-de-Champlain CLSC visiting nurses, Nathalie, Lise and respiratory therapist Nathalie for their wonderful care.
