Mladen Pozezanac

It is with great sadness that ‘George’ of George Garage, 3815 Saint-Jacques Street, Saint-Henri has died at the age of 90.

But who was George? His name was Mladen Pozezanac and at the age of 19, he and 2 other friends, Leo Spigelski and Zlatko Duzanec, tempted fate and escaped communist Yugoslavia. They chose a stormy night, so border guards could not see them fleeing in the heavy rain – luck had smiled on them, as people were regularly shot trying to escape.

After 6 challenging years travelling across Europe, going from Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg, they set their horizon towards a land of opportunity: Canada. With only 10 dollars in his pocket, Mladen was ambitious and determined to own his future in his newfound home. Through a lot of hard work, determination and help of old and newfound friends, Mladen was able to open his own business as a Shell Franchisee, and then later going independent becoming George Garage. To this day, George Garage remains an indispensable and beloved institution of the Saint-Henri neighborhood. With customers coming back time and time again, far, and wide, the community bestowed him a name of affection: George.

George Garage is a family business with his wife Rita, son Alan and grandsons Simon and Mathieu. A special thank you to the extended George Garage family permanent employees Maurice Dossett, still working at George Garage today, and Yvan Peretic and Gary Dossett (both deceased). George Garage is a small but dynamic business and is considered one of the best garages in Montreal on Local Blogs.

Typical of the immigrant story, Mladen helped his family back home and even sponsored his two brothers to join him in Canada, who started businesses of their own. He is predeceased by his sister Nada, and brothers Zvonko, Branko and sisters-in law Branka and Marguerite respectively.

Mladen was a talented musician, playing piano and accordion with no formal training and could replicate any song he heard. He loved music, cars, swimming in his pool, soccer, baseball, and tennis. In fact, at 19, Mladen was president of his local tennis club and played in the Croatian open. He never missed a grand slam or world series.

He leaves behind his devoted wife Rita Dusablon of 63 years, his children Suzanne, Alan and Carole, his grand-children, Simon, Adrian, Mathieu, Alexandre and Justine, and his son in-law Louis, daughter in-law Catherine, nieces Karmen, Ksenija, Edita, Nella, Sylvia, and Nancy in grief.

The family will receive condolences March 31 from 7 pm to 9 pm at Collins Clarke, MacGillivray White, Dignity memorial, 307 Riverside Drive, Saint-Lambert, Quebec, J4P-1A7.

The funeral will be on April 1, 11am at Saint Lambert Catholic Church, 41 Avenue Lorne, Saint Lambert, QC J4P 2G7.

‘George’ de George Garage, a quitté les lieux....

C'est avec une grande tristesse que l'on apprend le décès de " George ", du Garage George, 3815 rue Saint-Jacques a Saint-Henri, à l'âge de 90 ans.

Mais qui était George ? Il s'appelait Mladen Pozezanac, À l'âge de 19 ans, avec deux amis, Leo Spigelski et Zlatko Duzanec, il a tenté le sort en s’échappant de la Yougoslavie communiste. Les trois amis ont choisi une nuit d'orage pour que les gardes-frontière ne puissent pas les voir s'enfuir - la chance leur a souri, car de nombreux fuyards étaient régulièrement abattus en tentant le même exploit.

Après six ans de voyage en Europe qui les ont menés de l'Italie à la France, en passant par la Belgique, l'Allemagne et le Luxembourg, ils se sont tournés vers une terre d'accueil : Le Canada. Avec seulement 10 dollars en poche, Mladen était ambitieux et déterminé à se forger un avenir prometteur dans son nouveau pays. À force de travail et de volonté, et avec l'aide d'anciens et de nouveaux amis, Mladen a pu fonder sa propre entreprise en tant que franchisé Shell. Il deviendra par la suite indépendant et nommera son atelier de mécanique auto, George Garage. Aujourd'hui encore, George Garage est une institution indispensable et bien-aimée du quartier de Saint-Henri. Ses clients sont loyaux et viennent des quatre coins du Grand Montréal. La communauté lui a donné un nom d'affection : George.

Le Garage George est une entreprise familiale à laquelle tous contribuent : son épouse Rita, son fils Alan et ses petit-fils Simon et Mathieu. Nous remercions tout particulièrement les employés de la famille élargie de George Garage, Maurice Dossett, qui y travaille encore ainsi qu'Yvan Peretic et Gary Dossett, tous deux décédés, qui y ont travaillé de nombreuses années. George Garage est une petite entreprise dynamique considérée sur les blogs locaux comme un des meilleurs ateliers de mécanique à Montréal.

Comme tout immigrant, Mladen a aidé sa famille dans son pays d'origine et a même parrainé ses deux frères qui l'ont rejoint au Canada et qui ont créé leur propre entreprise. Avant lui sont décédés, sa sœur Nada, ses frères Zvonko et Branko, et ses belles-sœurs Branka et Marguerite.

Mladen était un musicien talentueux. Il jouait du piano et de l'accordéon sans aucune formation et pouvait reproduire n'importe quelle chanson qu'il entendait. Il aimait la musique, les voitures, nager dans sa piscine, le football, le baseball et le tennis. En fait, à 19 ans, Mladen était président du club de tennis local et a participé à l'Open de Croatie. Il n'a jamais manqué un grand chelem ou un championnat du monde.

Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse dévouée depuis 63 ans, Rita Dusablon, ses enfants Suzanne, Alan et Carole, ses petits-enfants Simon, Adrian, Mathieu, Alexandre et Justine, son gendre Louis, sa brue Catherine, ses nièces Karmen, Ksenija, Edita, Nella, Sylvia et Nancy.

La famille recevra les condoléances le 31 mars de 19 h à 21 h chez Collins Clarke MacGillivray White, Réseau Dignité, 307 rue Riverside, Saint-Lambert (Québec) J4P1A7.

Les funérailles auront lieu le 1er avril à 11 h à l'église catholique de Saint-Lambert, 41, avenue Lorne, Saint-Lambert (Québec) J4P 2G7.
