President of his graduating high school class (1953) at West Hill High School in NDG, Bob self-financed his time at McGill University. Capping a successful career as the in-house economist and vice president of an investment firm, Bob happily shared his investment smarts with students in the Business Department at Champlain College Saint-Lambert for another 15 years.
Many of his friends and family will affectionately remember sharing happy times at his cottage perched above his beloved Charleston Lake or surveying the ever-changing Saint-Lawrence from his Nun’s Island apartment. Ever a sun lover, Bob spent 22 consecutive winter vacations in Guadeloupe in the French West Indies and some time in Cuba.
Though an intensely private person, Bob nonetheless actively engaged in human rights causes, counseled refugees, and shared his deeply held positions with radio talk shows and in letters to the editor. Widely read and well-informed, he found a community of fellow travelers in the Unitarian Church, where he was often the first to step forward to speak out on behalf of those who needed support. He celebrated his Loyalist and indigenous roots while maintaining a global perspective. A loyal friend and tireless humanitarian, Bob will be missed by all who knew him.
As he requested, a memorial concert in his memory at the Unitarian Church is planned when conditions permit.
