
After a long life, Allen Sabol died peacefully on Friday August 1. Born into a family of five boys and raised in St. Louis he volunteered for flight duty in World War ll. At the age of 22 he found himself aboard a B-22 that was shot down over enemy territory. He spent the next several months in prison camps and on harrowing winter marches with little food or warm clothing. He was freed by British soldiers as the war concluded in 1945. Two years later he married Ruth Frankel and they were married until her death in 1992. During and after a career at Famous-Barr he was an active volunteer in University City and at his synagogue. He leaves two children, Leslie (Mimi) Sabol and Laurie (Allen) Sabol and two grandchildren, Benjamin Sabol and Samantha Sabol and his special friend, Beverly Stuhlman. Burial will be on Sunday August 3 at 1pm at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery(Olive Blvd and North Hanley) Donations can be made to the St. Louis Kollel or Nusach Hari Bnai Zion.
