Ben Loomstein, born in St. Louis on August 19, 1988, died suddenly following a brief illness on October 28th in Kansas City. His loss is devastating to all who love him and he will be so deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his beloved father, Don Loomstein, and his grandparents, Robert and Sylvia (Fixler) Loomstein and Burt and Lois (Finkelstein) Nobil.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Lauren (Taylor), his treasured young sons, Jacob and Isaac, his loving mother, Gwynn (Nobil), his adoring sister, Heather (Adam) Giesing, beloved nephews, Mason and Max, his in-laws, the late Chris and Luci Taylor, his brother-in-law, Chris Taylor, cousins, and many, many friends and colleagues.
Ben had a wonderful childhood, filled with laughter, love, and many trips with Nana and Gramps. At Parkway North High School, he was an exceptional football and lacrosse player (#72 in your programs and #1 in your hearts) and was fond of saying that “you need a fire in your belly” to win. He went on to Mizzou, becoming a dedicated Tiger through and through, and joined Kappa Alpha Order fraternity, where his brothers became lifelong friends. He earned his BSBA from Mizzou’s Trulaske College of Business and went on to earn his MBA from UMKC.
Landing at Cerner in Kansas City meant a new city and new possibilities. One of those possibilities was a beautiful young woman on one of his product rollout teams. Ben took the first opportunity he could to tease Lauren Taylor, like a schoolboy on the playground with a crush, and then asked her out. Both agreed that their first date was the moment they fell in love. They were married and began building their family, adding Jacob and Isaac over the next few years. Ben was an amazing father and loved his boys with no limit. They returned that love and will always know Ben as the most important man in their lives.
Ben Loomstein was larger than life. He absolutely filled every space he entered with his energy, enthusiasm, and laughter. He found such joy in making those around him smile and he was fiercely protective of his family, especially Lauren, Jacob, and Isaac. Every Sunday night was reserved for watching the Simpsons, he was an avid PEZ collector, and he was a member of the Kansas City BBQ Society, as both a competitor and a judge. He was a Client Partner at Oracle at the time of his passing.
Ben was a friend, a confidant, a man of great integrity. He had a true heart of gold, remembering everyone’s birthday and keeping those closest to him always top-of-mind.
May his memory forever be a blessing.
A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, November 1st, at Beth Shalom Cemetery, 650 White Rd. in Chesterfield, at 10 AM. Shiva will follow from 11 AM to 2 PM at United Hebrew Congregation, 13788 Conway Rd.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that you make donations in Ben’s name to Movember (movember.com), funding lifesaving research, improving access to care, and helping men live longer, healthier lives, or to the charity of your choice. As part of Movember, Ben would grow out his moustache every November, in support and solidarity. Please consider honoring his memory by doing the same this November and in all the Novembers to come.
