On December 29, 2024, Bonnie “Bunny” Shopper died at the age of 92. Born in the Bronx to Louis and Rae Roggins, she attended the City College of NY and earned a Masters in Early Childhood Education. She moved to St. Louis with her husband, Moisy Shopper, and dedicated herself to the arts and music community. For decades, she was very active in the St. Louis Opera Theater, serving as a docent and giving opera seminars. She was a self-taught craftsperson and a founding member of the St. Louis Craft Alliance, creating beautiful enamels which were shown nationally. Bunny was also an accomplished classical pianist.
A loving, gracious mother, she raised three boys, David, Glenn, and Evan, who made her proud. Bunny was vibrant, outspoken, silly, and full of chutzpah, a campaigner for Greenpeace and Saving the Whales well before it was fashionable, a rescuer of abandoned animals, and a champion for the underdog. She lived big and loved big, adoring her family and friends. She left things far better than how she found them.
Funeral will be private. Donations can be made to the Humane Society of Missouri (https://www.hsmo.org) and the Opera Theatre of St. Louis (https://opera-stl.org/support-us/).
