  I don't know how I missed this sad news; I had been thinking of him recently.
  I can remember being sentenced to two weeks of 'Chuck' in 7th grade (no tie, leaving books out).  With Chuck and Willie, it was more like a valuable (and fun) class.
  There's probably Turkey Chow Mein and Chili Mac on the menu in Heaven now, served up by the finest.
  My condolences to the Dattilo family for the loss of your Patriarch; thanks for sharing him with so many generations of Priory students.

To Chuck's family. When I was at Priory from "66-"72 we had family style meals prepared by Chuck and staff.We all ate lots of food,well prepared and some of us "got" to help out when our behavior fell below standards.Chuck was a fixture at school whose memory is engraved in all who attended as part of the Priory experience. My class (1960) was the first at Priory. Chuck was a great part of the adventure we - the monks, boys, faculty and staff - had out there starting a great school. Chuck's smile and unfailing good humor and interest in us made a big impression on me. Not to mention that he kept us well fed!  My sympathy to all his family.

Dear Dattilo family,  
I graduated from Priory in 1981 and worked in the cafeteria as part of a "work study" program while I was in the junior school.  We would frequently ask Chuck to be let off  a little early if we had an exam to cram for or if the weather was good.  I will always remember Chuck rolling his eyes, giving that huge grin and then his permission to leave. I had a lot of great teachers at Priory.  Chuck's patience and kindness made him one of them.  My deepest condolences to his family.

The widespread impact of Chuck's life is, I'm sure, better known by his fortunate family than anyone else.  Yet it is profoundly demonstrated as well by the wide variety of ages and locations noted in the above testimonies.  I graduated in 1977, and was among the first group of students who made the transition from "Chuck volunteers"  to "Chuck employees" (if seventy five cents per day counts as employment).  For me too then, Chuck was my first boss.  Probably also my most forgiving boss.  At a school where the monastic faculty place such strong emphasis on human dignity, justice and a clear sense of right and wrong, it is both surprising and fitting that the most enduring lessons on how actually to apply these values in everyday life were provided in the lunchroom under Chuck's example.  May he rest in peace.

There are innumerable fond memories for me of Mr. Dattilo and all of the Dattilo family.  I was lucky to grow up as a neighbor at Priory.  And it was the opposite of punishment to work for Chuck in the kitchen after lunch - Chuck knew that but probably Father Miles did not... ~Mike Barry

I always think of Chuck and all the Dattilos on New Years Day, when they had their open house and we would eat Peggy's cannolis and then try to say thank you to Chuck who was always watching football downstairs.

Dear Datillo Family,

I am a '88 graduate of Priory, and four of us (Bill Danna, Dave Ebenhoh, Chris Worland, and Tony Guerrerio) worked for Chuck in the cafteria for most of our four high school years at Priory.  For all of us it was our first job, and we all agree that working with Chuck was one of the most impressionable experiences of our high school years.  To this day the four of us are still good friends despite being spread between Seattle, Baltimore, and St. Louis.  Chuck had a lasting impression on the four of us, and his memory will live on in the friendship that we have.

Dear Dattilo family, I am a 1985 graduate of Priory.  My condolences to your family in these sad times.  As others have mentioned, Chuck was an enormous influence on many students who have come through the Priory doors.  Priory will never be the same without him there. Dear Datillo Family,  During my 6 years at Priory, Chuck was someone I saw every day at lunch time, and every day he had a smile on his face despite the unruly behavior of teenagers in his midst.  I was an '80 graduate and admired Chuck's ability to maintain a calm demeanor and to manifest magnificent responses to the perpetrator of the many minor offenses that only a Priory kid could think of. Under his tutelage, I learned what it truly meant to scrub a kitchen clean on a Saturday morning, a lesson I only wish I could pass on to my children.   He will be greatly missed.

Dear Peggy, Mike and family - Chuck was a dear friend to me and to so many others, and a good neighbor for so many years. I have fond childhood memories visiting with him and with your whole family (at both houses); enjoying his cooking; working to prepare, serve or clean up; New Years Day parties; his big heart, smile and laughter; those sunny cool autumn days standing outside grilling burgers and dogs at the Priory football games. What a nice man, especially putting up with all the nonsense from us silly boys over the years.  Always with a smile or a shake of the head.  Chuck represents as big a memory that I have of all my years in my childhood and will be greatly missed.  The Priory School has lost a favorite son.

Chuck was an enormous influence to probably 40 years of boys at Priory! I was a '66 graduate, and together with sons Alan'92 and Peter'94, we all shared in the "Chuck experience" of washing dishes, setting tables for the next day's lunch, mopping floors, etc. Quite plainly, I was one of the many sources of mischief and the genetic influence flowed down to my two boys. Many dishes were dropped and broken and Chuck's eyes would roll up into his head. But there would be cookies or extra cake at the end and he was, quite frankly, adored by the students who came in close contact with him.  Both of my boys live in Denver now  and my older one is 18 years out of Priory.  Yet both would enquire about his health from time to time and often visited him when they were in town!
Deepest sympathy to the Dattilos! He is a tremendous loss.

I am a 1987 graduate of Priory; Chuck was my first boss in life.  I was a faithful "Chuck Worker" and did so because I enjoyed being with Chuck.  I enjoyed his humor and felt he was genuinely interested in the students at Priory.  He has made a positive impact on thousands of impressionable young men and has made this world a better place.   Rest in peace my friend!

Dear Dattilo family,

I just want you all to know that you're in my thoughts and prayers.  I will always remember Chuck with that big, warm grin that filled his face ear to ear. His great love for family shines brightly through all of you everyday.  He was loved by everyone and will live forever in our hearts.

I am a 1964 graduate of the Priory; I learned how to stack dishes under Chuck's watchful eye!  I would see him from time to time over the years at the School.
