Beloved husband of the late Marybeth Leary (nee Mooney); dear mother of Mike (Mary Ellen), Mary Kay, Meg Rosen, Mark (Kelly) Leary; dear grandfather of Conor, Michael (Nola), Caroline and Hayden Leary, Nicole and Lindsey Rosen, Anna, Ben and Charlotte Leary; dear son of the late Daniel J. and Alice Ryan Leary; dear brother of Daniel (Pat) Jr., Kathleen, Mary Alice, and the late Bob (Hettie Ann) and Bill Leary; Our dear brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Born in Kansas City, MO and raised in Joplin, MO. He was a true Irishman, he loved his faith, family and friends. He was married to his college sweetheart, Marybeth, for 51 years. He adored his kids, and his grandkids even more, attending more sports, Irish dancing, and musical events than he could remember. An avid sportsman, he played baseball through high school, tennis and ice hockey, before switching to the less physically demanding golf pastime. Mike was a daily Mass attendee, ardent reader, barbequer, photographer, traveler, clothes horse and beach bum.
Mike and Marybeth graduated from St. Louis University, where they met. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. A Certified Public Accountant, he rose to the level of audit partner, before becoming the VP of Finance at St. Louis University High School.
Mike was generous with his time, treasure and talent, serving on the audit committee of the Archdiocese, finance committee and fish fry team at Our Lady of the Pillar, Board Chair of Boys Hope Girls Hope, Board Chair of Glen Echo Country Club, head of the Fathers Club at St. Joseph’s Academy, member of the Black Robe Society at DeSmet Jesuit High School, baseball coach of Mike’s team at St. Mary Magdalen grade school.
The family would like to thank the staff at Aberdeen Heights and Solace hospice, and many others over the past years, for taking such good care of Dad.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024; 11:30 am at Our Lady of the Pillar Church, 401 S. Lindbergh Blvd., 63131. A reception will follow Mass at the church’s Family Life Center. The interment was private, Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to DeSmet Jesuit High School, or St. Louis University High School is appreciated.
