Dan Holt introduced me and many others to violin when we were in 3rd grade at Barretts Elementary. He was not our teacher but showed up to basically help our teacher get the program started. He was always looked uo toby those of us who were Parkway South High students. Hus skill as a director and an interpreter of music propelled us to state recognition. He made orchestra cool and our school's top athletes took his class because of him. He was a good guy and a large part of my appreciation and understanding of all music was due to him....


My daughters Megan and Chelsea were students of Maestro Dan at Riverview High School in Sarasota from 2000 until 07-08. I was an OPO mom and went on trips with the orchestra to Chicago and a Bahanas Cruise, Miami, and others ....Also amazing was that Dan was born in the same tiny town as my mother and graduated from the same Ky University as my parents and where I attended high school...I fondly remember him jumping up on the OPO Hospitality room bed with an entire room of parents in Chicago saying 'Diane, we're a long way from Murray!'. We loved him dearly and he was an inspiration to my children....I only googled him today because I was at a performance this past weekend where my daughter played cello and it brought a flood of memories to me of those wonderful trips...I doublechecked the middle name in this obituary and found it a match to his college name....May he rest in peace ...he made a huge difference to our lives that we will never forget...

I was so saddened to hear of Dan's death about a month ago.  I'd known nothing about it.  We taught together at Cross Keys Jr High beginning in the fall of 1969.  On the Tuesday after Valentine's Day in February, Dan offered me two free tickets to see the St Louis Philharmonic--of which he was a member--playing at Kiel Opera House that Friday night.  I asked a fellow teacher Carol to go.  That was our first date together.  We married in March 1972 and so have been together for the past 43+ years.  I mentioned this to Dan during a Philharmonic Orchestra intermission about 2 years ago.  He was simply astounded to hear about it.  God Bless you Dan.  Great memories.

My family is extremely saddened for all of Dan's family. During these difficult times we pray that you will find comfort in knowing that Dan will forever be in God's memory. We pray that you all find comfort in the God of peace (Psalm 83:18).
