David G. Merz

With faith in the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we announce the passing of David Gary Merz, age 90 of St. Louis, Missouri and Murfreesboro, Tennessee on September 19, 2026, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church.

Born on December 6, 1935 in St. Louis, Dave lived a life rooted in faith, love, and devotion to family. He was the son of the late Henry J. Merz and Stella Politte Merz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia Rohr Merz, and his son, David M. Merz. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Norbert Merz and Norma Baumle.

He is survived by his daughter, Laura (Michael) Schmidt, and his son, Philip (Carrie) Merz, daughter-in-law, Patricia Merz, along with grandchildren Matthew, David, Angela, Jeffrey, Theresa, David, Michael, Grace, Amanda and Lindsey as well as great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters, Noreen Boyer and Charlotte Deeken.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Prosser Merz and step-children, Edward (Kathy) Prosser, Timothy (Betty) Prosser, Christopher (Valerie) Prosser, Cindy (Robert) Tresider, and Patrick (Stephanie) Prosser along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dave lived a life filled with love of family and friends, especially the love of his many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 14, 2026 at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, Saint Louis, Missouri 63125.
