Dyke C. Knackstedt, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at the age of 66, after courageously battling cancer. Born on June 21, 1960, in St. Louis, MO, Dyke lived a life rich with love, laughter, and dedication.
Dyke was the son of Warren and Maxine Knackstedt, who predeceased him along with his mother and father-in-law, Joe and Joan Bova, and brother-in-law, James (Ernie) Wright.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Judy Knackstedt, with whom he created a beautiful life filled with cherished memories.
Together, they raised three wonderful children: Zachary (Amy) Knackstedt, Meghan (Dustin Shaver) Knackstedt, and Caitlin (Jake) Schnare.
Dyke took immense pride in being a grandfather to five grandchildren: Carson Gross, Brady and Kennady Knackstedt, and Emersyn and Oscar Schnare, all of whom brought him boundless joy.
Dyke was a great life long friend to many, whom he considered his family; dedicated brother to siblings Teddye(Chuck) Stadler, Toni (the late Gary)Grossenheider, Tracey Knackstedt, Erik (Liz) Knackstedt, and Geoff Knackstedt; a beloved brother-in-law to Joe (Doris)Wright, Chris Bova, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews is cherished.
For 38 years, Dyke dedicated himself to the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District, where he worked until his retirement in 2021, so he could care for family members.
Known for his quick wit and infectious laugh, Dyke was the life of every party. He had an unparalleled gift for making people laugh until they cried, always ready with a joke to lift spirits.
A true lover of music, Dyke enjoyed spending his time on the patio listening to KSHE or some of his favorite bands.
Dyke's legacy is one of entertainment, generosity, and loyalty. He touched the lives of everyone he met, leaving behind a world a little brighter for those who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished, and his spirit will live on in the stories and laughter he inspired.
The family would particularly like to thank Heartland Hospice, especially Nurse Anita; your comfort made a very difficult and emotional time more bearable for our family with the comfort we needed to carry us through this journey, peacefully.
If desired, memorial donations in memory of Dyke may be made to American Lung Association, Stray Rescue of St. Louis, or the River Otter Fund through St. Louis Zoo.
Visitation will be held at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63125 on August 22, 2026, from 12:00 until time of funeral service at 4:00 pm.
