Earnie is a St. Mary’s Alumnus - Class of 1948 and a standout player on the football team. On behalf of St. Mary’s faculty, staff, and students, both past and present, we extend our most heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends. 

Also know that we share in your sorrow and grieve for your loss. Special mention and offerings of condolences to Earnie’s classmates and to those students, who at one time or another, were either upper classmates or under classmates of his, and who may have known him personally or “of him” as someone they passed in the hallways, shared a table with at lunchtime or maybe even participated in some of the same extra-curricular activities as Earnie did from the time he enrolled as a Freshman in September of 1945 (then known as “Southside Catholic”) until the time he graduated as a Senior in June of 1948 (then known as “St. Mary’s” The name change came in 1947). 

Although Earnie is gone from this life, his spirit has been and always will be here on the Campus of St. Mary’s High School - the very same place it was when he was a student and where, on his very first day of class, was bestowed the eternal honor of becoming a "Son of Mary". And just as it has been since then, daily prayers will continue to be said and daily masses will continue to be offered for him by the Brothers of Mary.

I met Ernie when I was an apprentice lineman at Dorsett Works Headquarters in the 1970's. He was one of the most likeable guys I had ever met.  So many fond memories of  the parking lot parties  and singing "Whiskey River" with him. Ernie was so much fun.  We'll all miss him at the Union Hall.  Best "Bar Maid" ever!

Ernie has been, for these 2 ½ years I have lived on Laclede Commons with him, a powerful friend whose energy and goodwill brought into my life joy and hope and lots of fun.  Ernie was truly a mensch: bringing lovingcare to others, visiting the lonely and the sick, brighting our days with bursts of song and rowdy humor.  For those of us who, like me, are trying to learn how to live with lose of past life and loved ones, Ernie was God’s lesson in carrying on well despite loss and sadness.  Ernie has been and always will be a blessing.

Earnie was a good friend to my father Ray Wiegert and would always chat with me while I was working on my lawn on Oleatha.  He told great stories from his experiences fighting in the Korean War.  Earnie was a good man and a proud American.  He will be missed.

Ernie will be so very missed throughout the Laclede Groves  campus.  He was a friend to many and brought countless smiles and laughter to us.   He was a leader who gathered many around the table during meals, crossword puzzles and word finding games.   Ernie was the one who had an infectious way about him that brought people together.   I will miss my friend!

My condolences to Stephen's family. Ernie was a friend and great "alley" neighbor. I loved hearing his stories about the "old neighborhood" (the Hill), and his adventures growing up. He was quite the character. He was a devoted family man and it was beautiful to see how lovingly he cared for Mickie.  He always had a dog treat to give to my dog Lucy when she sat at the backyard gate to greet him. He was always willing to lend a hand if help was needed, and it was so appreciated.  He will be missed.  Peace.

Ernie was a patient of mine at Costco hearing aid. He always brighten my day when he came in. Always teasing and joking, I will miss him coming in and say he wanted to order a pizza was he in the right place. My deepest condolences to Stephen and family. I loves him and will truly miss him. So sorry to hear of Ernie’s passing.  My father John Venegoni, was life long friends with Ernie.  I remember Ernie and Mickie hanging out with my parent’s. Ernie stopped by regularly to see my parents when they fell ill. 
He will always be remembered as a good man.
