He was born January 8, 1927, in Landau, Germany, and came to New York as a child. He served in the U.S. Army and attended New York University. He was a salesman with Garland clothing before becoming a successful business owner with SOS Technologies. Frank didn’t retire until just a few years ago.
Friends and relatives will remember Frank for his huge heart and quirky sense of humor. He always had a joke to tell and he loved to make people laugh. Frank savored a gourmet meal and relished a game of blackjack. A snazzy dresser, he collected enough colorful sweaters to wear a different one almost every day of the year. His grandkids will miss their Poppie, who showered them with gifts. His children will always cherish loving memories of their Dad.
Frank’s greatest joy was his family – and his dogs.
He is survived by three children, Allen (Trish), Robin (Robert Levenson) Benedick and Joy (Robert) Millner and stepsons Bob Sandmel (Lela) and Brad (Mary) Sandmel; grandchildren Ryan, Haley, Eric, Jacob, Jessica and Michael; nephew Dr. Kenneth (Judith) Rosenthal; brothers-in-law Dr. Herbert (Lana) Shapiro and Tim (Harriet) Shapiro and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
He was the beloved husband of the late Sandy J. Shapiro Benedick and the late DeVera Gerstein Benedick. He was preceded in death by his adoring sister, Doris Esther Benedick Rosenthal, nephew Stuart Rosenthal and brother-in-law Kurt Rosenthal.
