Fred was born at #3 Elm Avenue in Glendale, MO and spent his entire 102 years in the 63122 zip code. He was a proud graduate of Christian Brothers College High School (CBC) and Saint Louis University (SLU), playing on the football and golf teams at both schools. During World War II he supported the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale (near Vail, Colorado), then served in France. Upon his return, he began his career at Pandjiris Weldment Company where he retired as president in 1982.
He married the love of his life, Grace Ann Danis in 1948. They loved to be with family and friends and they were active members of Mary Queen of Peace and St. Genevieve du Bois parishes. Fred was an avid golfer at the Algonquin Golf Club and a Cardinal fan, spending his 100th birthday at Busch Stadium with a cold Budweiser in his hand.
Fred is survived by his son, Rick (Jan) Sackbauer and his daughter, Betty (Stan) Blanton, his grandchildren Lucy, Mary, and Tim Sackbauer and Amelia (Nathaniel) Blanton Hibner and Colleen Blanton. He was also the beloved uncle, great uncle, and great-great uncle to many. Fred was preceded in death by his wife Grace Ann Danis Sackbauer, and siblings, Mary L. (Nip) Pandjiris, Dorothy (Art) Eberle, and Philip "Bud" (Nancy) Sackbauer.
Donations in Fred’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice. A very special thanks to his St. Agnes Home family for their constant and compassionate care and thoughtfulness.
