Gladys Mae Reeves-Kandel

Beloved wife of the late Albert Kandel and the late Paul M. Reeves; dear mother and mother-in-law of Karen DeLee (Dr. Dennis), Barry Reeves (Indra Gill) and Jeff Reeves (Jena); dear grandmother of Dani Mokhtarian (David), Lindsay Arel (Shlomo), Josef Reeves (Felicia), Andrew Reeves (Kim) and Sara McFarlane (Steve); dear great-grandmother of Jordan, Leah, Goldie, Lolah, Jack, Quinn, Declan, Ryan and Michal; dear sister and sister-in-law of Shirley Alper (late Dave) and the late Lester Rosen (late Bernice); dear aunt of Marla, Steve, Craig, Cindy, Sandy, Eddie and their families.

Gladys was a woman of integrity and valor, whose value was greater than the rarest gem. How do you define a woman of valor? In Hebrew, valor means good, valiant, capable, and virtuous. She was a one of kind combination of all these traits and more. Mother, daughter, friend, advocate, wife, joke teller, beautiful, kind, smart, leader and a force of nature especially in rummikub! There aren't enough words to describe her and there will never be one quite like her.

Gladys was like a beautiful butterfly that emerged from the cocoon, spreading her wings and releasing her power of goodness and beauty into the world. Gladys impacted so many lives and will be dearly missed. However, we can take comfort knowing that the next butterfly we see might be her loving spirit reminding us of her presence.

A collector of elephants and a true Cardinals fan, Gladys spent more than 50 years with Delmar Gardens as one of their charters in 1966. She was honored by President Obama for her service and must have known more than 10,000 people through her interactions with all of the Delmar Gardens employees.
