The most important things in his life were family and friends. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Francine (Melinas); adoring children, Cindy and the late Alan; beloved siblings, Rick (Chris), Sam (Shirley), Jodi (Terry) Moss, Risa (Jeff) Sikora, and Tammy; loving sisters-in-law, Belinda Green and Vida (Morton) Moel; close first cousins, Caroline Slavin, Bob Safron, and Norma Sue Sher; best friend Byron Smyrniotis; nieces/nephews/great nieces/great nephews whom he adored; beloved cousins and innumerable friends.
Harlan is the son of the late Florence (the late Sheldon) Silberstein and the late Manne (the late Laree) Green.
When crashing a party, a 16-year-old Harlan met a 15-year-old Francine and was immediately smitten, telling his mom that he had met the girl he would marry. And so, he did. Cindy and Alan completed their family and they loved each other beyond compare.
He and his brother, Rick, worked together in the family business, Max German Meats, continuing a tradition well-known to the people of St. Louis and beyond.
While Cindy’s favorite memories are too numerous to mention, spending time learning about his business and boating on the river stand out as among the best.
His love of fishing is legendary. He and Alan, tragically lost too soon, were extremely close and bonded over their time spent casting on the water.
Harlan will be remembered as a businessman, pilot, and a jack of all trades.
He will be missed by so many and his memory will forever be a blessing.
