Henry Rutherford Fett passed away on Wednesday, April 3rd, at the age of 91. Hap was born to parents Henry August Fett and Jesse Rutherford (Fredricks) Fett. Hap graduated from Principia college in 1954 with a degree in economics, where he was captain of the football team, a 4-year letterman and starter for three years, during two of which the team was undefeated in competition.
Hap had a wonderful career as a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch, where he worked for more than 50 years before retiring at the age of 80. Hap loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed Summers on Crystal Lake in Michigan, where he could often be found driving his wooden Chris Craft or enjoying a sunset with a cigar.
Hap will be remembered by all as “the life of the party” and someone that truly appreciated life. He was humble about his success, hugely generous to others, and taught through his example how to be a loving and caring husband, father, and friend.
In addition to his parents, Hap was preceded in death by his son Doug Fett and is survived by his Loving wife of 44 years, Jacqueline Fett, daughter Felicia Tudal, and sons Robert McCormick, Jonathan McCormick (Karen) and Matthew McCormick (Missy) and his grandchildren Andrea Tudal, Jacqueline McCormick, Alexandra McCormick, Gwendolyn McCormick, Gunner Hap McCormick, Rider McCormick, Grant McCormick, and Paige McCormick.
The funeral mass to celebrate Hap’s life with be held at noon on Friday, April 19th, at Christ the King church in University City. All are welcome to attend.
