So sorry for Joan's family.   She was a beautiful person and a great cousin.  Mary Haselman Schroeder from Leipsic Ohio.

Joan had a great love for God, life, family and friends. She had such a zest for life. She was a great role model for our children. When she came back to visit Ohio every one was excited to see her. When she asked us to move into her home farm in LEIPSIC she vowed to keep restore the place so that it would be her for future generations. Joan’s husband don called it “”her expensive  hobby” joan would bring a traveling companion “Grump” and her sister Edna out in the summers and pitch in to make improvements. Joan was not afraid to get her hands dirty.   My dad Leo, always referred to her as his twin sister just being a few days apart in age. Not a day went by without thinking of her in some way. She will be sadly missed.

Joan will be greatly missed. She  was a long time friend of mine and our family. We shared many wonderful times together. Joan was dedicated to her family, her students and St. Louis University Nursing. She was very proud of her daughters and grandchildren’s accomplishments. I am sure there are many nursing alumni, who  have benefited from her teaching.  Once when she was counseling a distraught student who had failed chemistry and had to repeat it in Summer school. She told her: “some good comes from everything.” Years later, the student told her at an alumni reunion that she always remembered that statement. She met her husband during the Summer chemistry class. He was her teacher. Joan will always be remembered for her thoughtfulness and kindness to others. God Bless! To the Carter Family, 
Joan will always hold a special place in my heart.  She thoughtfully and joyfully looked out for the SLUSON staff,   Joan was kind, and appreciative of everyone, especially her closest friends. 
I still have Lilies of the Valley that we dug out of her yard near St John’s Mercy.  I think of her often, and was happy to visit her and have dinner at Friendship Village.  Sending my condolences and sincere sympathy.  I am unable to attend the Memorial service as I will be out of town, but I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
