June Rubin Bierman, age 98, passed away peacefully at her home at The Gatesworth on June 12, 2026 after a brief illness. To all who knew her, June was both ageless and beautiful inside and out. Born in St. Louis on December 29, 1927, she graduated from University City High School in 1945. After attending the University of Iowa, she graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1948 with a B.A. in Political Science. She returned to Washington University in 1950 where she served as secretary to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts for four years before marrying Arthur Bierman in May 1955. While her husband and two sons Fred and Jon were her first priority, she also spent more than 40 years as a volunteer and Auxiliary Board member at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis where she served as VP Membership, VP Volunteer Services, Recording Secretary, and also co-chaired the Tribute Fund and Gift Gallery among other responsibilities. She and Art enjoyed foreign travel as well as visiting their children and grandchildren in New York, Los Angeles, and Rhode Island. June also loved theatre, movies, reading, music, Mah Jong, and taking courses at Washington University’s Lifelong Learning. She was a longtime member of the Eliot Society and for more than twenty years, she sponsored a student scholarship in Arts & Sciences at Washington University. But nothing gave her more pleasure in life than spending time with family and friends. Even at age 98, she was not ready to say goodbye to a life she so loved and to all those she held most dear. Her memory will forever remain a blessing to everyone both young and old whose lives she touched.
June is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years Arthur Bierman, her parents Saul L. and Rebecca (Peggy) Rubin, and her sister Barbara (Alan) Margulis. She is survived by her sister Ruthellyn Roufa, sons Fred Bierman (Stephanie Cobin) and Jon Bierman, stepdaughter Alexis Bierman Hafken, grandson Sam Bierman, step-grandchildren David (Lynnette), Robert, and Michael (Tina) Hafken, Sean (Arata) Kagan, Madison and Joelle Rubeli, and by numerous and beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, step-great-grandchildren, and cousins.
