Byrd was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Born and raised in Carlinville, IL, daughter of Dr. Earl and Lilas Chamness, she moved to St. Louis after World War II with husband Bourne Bean, a prominent lawyer with the firm of Armstrong Teasdale. Bourne was the love of her life and they were married a fun filled 62 years.
Byrd was a wonderful mother to her three daughters, the late Courtney Obata, Christy Fox and Tracy Chivetta and a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren.
Byrd cherished her many friends in St. Louis and at her homes in Delray Beach, FL and Harbor Springs, MI. She was known for her style and as the consummate hostess, perfecting the art of entertaining. She loved a big party, a gracious dinner or just cocktails with friends.
She and Bourne were avid gardeners, golfers and skiers and loved to travel with friends and family. Byrd was active in many civic and charitable causes, including the Zoo, Forest Park Forever and the Botanical Garden.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bourne, brother Dr. James Chamness and daughter Courtney Obata. She is survived by daughters Christy Fox (Gary), Tracy Chivetta (A.J.) and grandchildren Max Obata, Claire Callaway Fox, Anthony Chivetta and Teddy Chivetta.
