Louis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally Ann Wheat, who passed away on April 17, 2025. They were married on September 7, 1963, and shared 61 years of devoted marriage.
He is survived by his children: son Brian D. Wheat, daughter Laura Ann Wheat, and son Alan A. Wheat; his grandchildren Daniel Yancey and Lydia Wheat; and his great-grandchildren Elliott, Millicent, Lexi, Lennox, and Bennett. He is also survived by the many beloved nieces and nephews with whom he shared cherished memories and whom he loved dearly.
Louis attended St. Louis University High School, graduating with the Class of 1959. He went on to earn a degree in electrical engineering from Saint Louis University with the Class of 1963.
He built a distinguished engineering career spanning decades, working with Alco Controls Corporation, Willard Given and Associates Consulting Engineers, Connor’s Mechanical Contracting, Fru-Con Corporation, Sverdrup, Jacobs Engineering Corp, and Parsons Corp.
Louis was a lifelong Catholic whose faith shaped every dimension of his life — his sense of duty, his loyalty, and his care for others. His faith sustained deep, enduring relationships, especially with the Sisters of St. Joseph and the Our Lady of the Pillar small group community.
His devotion was perhaps most visible in his love for his wife, his children, and the family for whom he always prayed. He built a life, a family, and a community — and with his own hands, a wonderful home.
His character was marked by a profound sense of responsibility, love, loyalty, and respect. He remained steadfast in love, responsibility, and prayer for all the people entrusted to him.
