She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dean, and their three children Adam (Reuben), Evan and Emily. She is also survived by her sister Bonnie Kustner and nephew Mordicai (Leah) Kustner, brothers-in-law Bruce Rosen and Warren Rosen, and nephew Forest (Megan) Rosen.
Louise grew up in Chicago with her parents, Dorothy and Jack Kustner, who both passed in 1997. She graduated from the Francis Parker School in Chicago and then obtained a bachelor’s degree in French from Lawrence University before obtaining a master’s in French literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Louise worked for the Contemporary Art Museum in Chicago and the Michael Wyman gallery before her marriage and move to Saint Louis in 1975. She then worked for the Nursing Department at the former Jewish Hospital.
Louise stayed home to raise her three children and loved that role. As the children grew, she became a volunteer for Shaare Zedek Synagogue, Central Agency for Jewish Education, Sister’s in Crime and her passion project, the St. Louis Jewish Book Festival. She chaired the host committee, meeting many favored authors. Louise loved her books and was surrounded by thousands. She enjoyed nothing more than finding the right book for each of her loved ones, knowing what they were interested in.
The last 10 years have not been kind to her as she battled many serious medical problems. She will be remembered for her kindness and grace.
Visitation and services at Berger Memorial at 9 am on June 8th, with the family at home that evening from 4-8 pm.
