What wonderful photos you shared. How loved and loving she was. And how happy. One of my favorite stories, Cathy? Of how your mom loved to iron for you. Pillow cases, sheets, shirts -- you name it. Thank you for sharing these photos of her, your family, your life together. She will be greatly missed.

We knew Lula from being members at Saint Mark's Episcopal Church. Every summer when she was able, Lula returned to her hometown in North Carolina. She treasured that reunion with old friends, family, and familiar sights from years gone by. Her home was in Saint Louis, but she maintained all the graciousness of her Old South background. She was dignified, elegant respectable, and great fun. We send you all our deepest and most sincere sympathies on the loss of a great lady. God bless you all.

I haven't seen Lula for many years but I never forgot her.  I was the secretary for Dr. Wotawa who was her obstetrician.   She was so charming and friendly.  She insisted on calling me "Miss Joan".  Please accept my sympathy at her passing.

I had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Knoll when her daughter, Catherine, and I were sorority sisters at Washington University.  She was a lovely lady and so very kind and helpful when my mother died.  I will always remember her for that.

Cathy and Ann, I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing.  My parents are Bruce and Vivian Schwartz.  I have so many wonderful memories of parties with your parents and the Essens all singing and dancing.  I love the photos you posted.  I have the first 7 in my parent's scrap book.  I used to love going to "Aunt Lula's" house.  I loved hearing her beautiful southern drawl.  It was musical and melodic.  I would ask her questions just to hear her speak.  She called my daddy Pinky.  I never knew why.......  I'd like to hope that Don and Pat and your parents and mine are all together now singing and dancing. I met Mrs. Knoll only once but that was enough to feel her grace and joy with life. I was at ease immediately and she made me laugh. Such a kind lady. My condolence to Cathy and Anne.

What a classy and elegant woman she was. I had the pleasure of meeting her in Seattle when she came out for a visit years ago. I remember how dignified and interested in the world she was. She'll be missed. Much love to you, dear Cathy. I know you loved her so.

Lula Knoll fed a Yankee boy from Montana many wonderful meals on her Southern silverware and did many kind things for me over the years. She loved her flower shop and  was truly a graceful woman from North Carolina.

I met Mrs. Knoll only a few times, but know her through her daughter, Catherine Gamble. I know she was a loving mother and a true gentle woman. Cathy and Anne, my sincerest sympathy on the loss of such a lovely and caring mother. I'm sure you have many wonderful memories of your lives with her.

One of the finest women to ever grace this earth...such style and that smile! A true lady who will be missed by all, but our special condolences to her wonderful family. St. Mark's is the kind of church it is today because of people like her.
