Marilyn Hendry Reynolds, born, Marilyn Rae Schuessler died on April 11. She was born in 1931, in St. Louis Mo., to L. Ray and Daisy Schuessler and attended Mary Institute and Washington University. Marilyn resided with her first husband, George Hendry and their two children for many years in University City, before moving to Soulard in the city.
Marilyn was the president of a travel club for many years before opening her own travel agency – Hendry – Reynolds Travel with her second husband, Don Reynolds. Upon retirement, they moved to a home in Arkansas that they built themselves. Marilyn loved good books, music and the theater. In Arkansas, however, she devoted her time and energy to a wide array of animals, including feral cats whose number continued to grow. Marilyn was always a champion to those who had no voice.
Marilyn was honest and spoke her mind. She was a true feminist before the term became mainstream. She cared deeply about the necessity of living one’s life with purpose and meaning, and she was fearless in its pursuit.
Marilyn was fiercely loyal to those whom she loved, most of all her children, Scott Hendry of Manchester, Missouri, and Susan Fitzgerald of Simsbury, Connecticut. She will be forever missed by Scott and Susan, Scott’s wife , Janet, Susan’s significant other, Lee Peters, grandchildren – Doug and Steve Hendry, Jane Fitzgerald Gagne and her husband David, great grandson, Liam Fitzgerald Gagne, sister-in-law, Nancy Schuessler, nephews, David Schuessler and wife, Heidi, and Daniel Schuessler and his wife Erina Matsuno, and her two cats, Bitsey and Sammie.
She is predeceased by her mother and father, two brothers, Robert and Donald, her two husbands, and her niece, Lisa Schuessler.
As was her wish, there will be no service. If you would like to make a donation in her name, we would suggest the Humane Society of Mo, 1201 Macklind Ave, St. Louis, Mo. 63110, as that’s where Bitsey is currently residing.
